Budget Narrative

As described in the expenditure table listed below, the cost associated with each item

warrants justification. Throughout the daily agenda of the project, students will be asked to print

research material and so it will be necessary to ask for an additional supply of printing paper,

markers, pens, and pencils. Group sharing and class discussions can be made more efficient with

the use of large notepads to sketch out vital information and plan out activities. The moderate

cost of classroom supplies, therefore, can be rightly justified as essential to the success of the

students’ project. Next, laminator machines and label makers will be needed to construct

nametags for the cabinets members during the project. Moreover, the laminators can also be used

to preserve important documents. At various times students will present data and governmental

agendas to their peers. The cost of a podium, along with a replica of a presidential seal will not

only set the scene of the situation room, but will offer the class a central place to conduct

speeches. The use of technology will invariably be used at one time or another by students; the

purchase of cheap and reliable headphones will be useful during individual research time

because students will be less distracted by audio clips and videos being played out loud by other

students.

Although not mentioned in the expense report, it is important to note that on the fifth day

of the project-based lesson the students will be taking a tour of the Arizona State Capitol

building. The cost of admission is free, however, proper planning and early registration will need

to be executed promptly to ensure maximum attendance by all students and chaperones. The tour

is expected to last approximately five to six hours, including transportation to and from the

capitol building. According to the bus chartering service the cost, which includes fuel, drive, and

mileage, is calculated on an hourly rate. Administration has used this service in the past and can

often arranged a discounted rate of $85 per hour.

Finally, one the tenth day of the project, the class will be ready to present to family,

friends, and guests. To honor the contributions and all of the hard work of everyone involved I

believe it will be necessary to provide food and refreshments to welcome everyone to the

presentation. The cost of the catering service for approximately 35-40 guests is quoted at $235; a

small price to pay for the community attention that this student-led project has the potential to

influence. We wish to invite staff and members of the community to be educated on just one

example of the presidents’ executive cabinet deliberates on key national issues. In this case, the

urgency of addressing a nuclear confrontation with a foreign aggressor is sure to captivate the

attention of the audience.
