Set-up and Procedure
1. Finely cut up/grind the plant material.
2. Add 250 mL of ethanol to the round bottom flask, which is attached to a Soxhlet Extractor and condenser on a hotplate. 3. Make sure that the sidearm of the soxhlet setup is lagged with glass wool. 4. The solvent is heated to 60 °C. The process is run for a total of 3 hours. 5. Once finished, the ethanol is to be evaporated using a rotary evaporator, leaving a small yield of dye extract in the glass bottom flask.
