Working principle of Supercharger System
Conclusion
INTRODUCTION
The supercharger system was invented by Philander and
Francis Roots in 1980s. The oldest design type of
supercharger is the Roots Supercharger and it used in any
type of engine.
A supercharger is basically an air compressor used for
forced induction of an internal combustion engine. It
compresses the air being delivered to the combustion
chamber of an engine. The greater mass flow-rate provides
more oxygen to support combustion that would be available
in a naturally- aspirated engine, which allows more fuel to
be provided and more work to be done per cycle, increasing
the power output of engine. Thus a supercharger is extra
equipment provided in an engine so as to boost the capacity
and torque of an engine.
WORKING PRINCPLE OF SUPERCHARGER
SYSTEM
Basically it such the air from outside, then it compressed
air and send to air intake manifold. The superchargers are
powered mechanically by belt or chain drive from the engine’s
crankshaft.
Superchargers increase intake by compressing air above
atmospheric pressure, without creating a vacuum. This forces
more air into the engine, providing a "boost." With the additional
air in the boost, more fuel can be added to the charge, and the
power of the engine is increased.
TYPES OF SUPERCHARGER
There are mainly two basic types of
superchargers. They are positive displacement
supercharger and dynamic supercharger.
