About SAHARA:
Inclusive Education is an approach seeking to address the learning needs of all children, youth,
adults with specific focus on those who are vulnerable to marginalization and exclusion. Idea of
inclusive education was adopted at the World Conference on Special Needs Education: Access
and Quality at Salamanca, 1994. It was reemphasized and elaborated in the UNCRPD 2006 in
which India was one of the member countries to ratify. RTE Act, 2009 mandates free and
compulsory education to all children from 6 to 14 years of age. It emphasized that every child
in our country has a Right to Education.
Though children with disability are getting admitted in the regular schools, their learning needs
are not fulfilled due to lack of proper teacher orientation. Hence, there is a dire need to equip
the teachers with skills and competency so that learning needs of this marginalized group of
students can be met with.
Prof. Richard Rose, eminent professional and Inclusive Educationist from the University of
Northampton is invited as resource person for this workshop. It is aimed to equip the teachers
with knowledge and skills in inclusive education. The focus will also be on orienting the
teachers with the inclusive practices to enable them to teach children with special needs in
inclusive classroom.
