Process Instruction

Gardolene® V 6560 A and V 6561 B

Activating pre-rinsing agent for iron materials for application prior to phosphating with
manganese phosphate processes.
Application by immersion.

Scope

Gardolene V 6560 A and Gardolene V 6561 B are an activating pre-rinsing agent for
iron materials for application prior to phosphating with manganese phosphate processes.
The activating pre-rinsing agent is applied by immersion.
Acitvation of surfaces, particularly of surfaces degreased with alkaline processes or parts
pickled in acid baths, generates fine-crystalline manganese phosphate coatings.
Gardolene V 6560 A and Gardolene V 6561 B are added to the last rinsing bath prior to
phosphating.

Bath make-up

For 1000 litres of pre-rinsing bath add

3 kg of Gardolene V 6561 B and
3 kg of Gardolene V 6560 A.
The pre-rinsing bath should be equipped with a fast-rotating stirrer which circulates the
entire bath volume.
Fill the tank with water and heat it, if necessary.
Completely dissolve the required amount of Gardolene V 6561 B in a vessel filled with hot
water. Then add this concentrate to the bath tank while stirring. Add the required amount
of Gardolene V 6560 A suspended in approx. 20 times the amount of water (heated to
approx. 40 °C) to the bath tank while stirring.
Do not add the components in reverse order.
To prevent the Gardolene V 6560 A from settling at the tank bottom which would result in
a loss of reactivity of the pre-rinsing bath, constantly stir the solution during and also after
bath operation.

Bath operation

Immersion time: 1 - 2 minutes

Bath temperature: room temperature - 50 °C
Bath concentration: 0.3 % of Gardolene V 6561 B and
0.3 % of Gardolene V 6560 A
The optimum working conditions will be established by our Technical Service.

Bath replenishment

For the generation of fine-crystalline phosphate coatings during phosphating,

replenishment will be operated as a function of the loss due to carry-over.
Fill the tank with water to operating level and thoroughly stir the solution.
Add per 1000 litres of pre-rinsing bath
0.7 - 1.0 kg of Gardolene V 6561 B and
0.7 - 1.0 kg of Gardolene V 6560 A.
Add the components in this sequence as described for the bath make-up.
If the replenishment ratio of 1:1 needs to be changed, the corresponding adjustments will
be made by our Technical Service.

New make-up of the pre-rinsing bath

If it is no longer possible to generate fine-crystalline manganese phosphate coatings even

after bath replenishment, discard the pre-rinsing bath and proceed to a new make-up.
Thoroughly rinse and clean the tank prior to a new make-up.
