COURSE OUTLINE
Second Semester, AY 2019-2020
Course Description
This course deals with concepts, principles, theories and techniques on nursing informatics in clinical practice,
education and research. The learners are expected to use the system of informatics to support the delivery of
health care.
COURSE OUTCOMES
By the time of graduation, the students of the program shall have the ability to:
1. Apply knowledge of physical, social, natural and health sciences and humanities in nursing informatics.
2. Provide safe, appropriate and holistic care of clients applying the nursing informatics systems in the nursing process as
the framework of care.
3. Apply guidelines and principles of evidence-based nursing practice utilizing information technology.
4. Practice nursing in accordance with existing legal, ethical, and moral principles in the application of information
technology.
5. Communicate effectively in speaking, writing and presenting, using culturally appropriate information system.
6. Document client care accurately and comprehensively with the aid of information technology system.
7. Work effectively as responsible communitarian in collaboration with inter-, intra- and multi-disciplinary and multi-
cultural in nursing informatics.
8. Practice beginning management and leadership skills using systems approach in the delivery of client care.
9. Conduct research with an experienced researcher utilizing appropriate informatics system application.
10. Engage in lifelong learning with a passion to keep current with national and global development in nursing informatics
and technology.
11. Demonstrate responsible citizenship and pride as a Filipino nurse in the use of information technology.
12. Apply techno-intelligent care systems and processes in health care delivery.
13. Adopt the nursing core values distinct as Augustinian nurse in the application of Information Technology System in
nursing practice.
14. Apply entrepreneurial skills in the use of information technology in the delivery of nursing care.

CLASSROOM POLICIES:
ATTENDANCE
1. Students are expected to come to class on time.
2. A student is considered late if he/she is not inside the classroom 5 minutes the first bell has rung & considered absent if he/she
is not inside the classroom after 15 minutes the second bell has rung.
3. A student may be marked absent if he/she goes out of the classroom for more than 5 minutes without asking permission from
the professor.
4. A late student forfeits any activity or quiz done in class before his/her arrival.
5. An absentee must secure an excuse slip from the Dean’s Office and present it to the professor on the day he/she reports back
to class. In case of dean’s unavailability to sign the excuse slip after 2 days, the student must present the medical
certificate/excuse letter from parents directly to the professor so that schedule of special quiz is done.
6. Absence due to sickness in just a day requires only parent’s letter. However, to ensure the health condition of the student,
sickness of more than a day shall require for a medical certificate.
7. Absentees are responsible for topics missed.
8. If the absence is considered excused, quizzes shall be taken within the week the student reports back to class.
9. An unexcused absentee shall have a rating of zero (0) in any individual or group outputs missed during the period of his/her
absence.
10. A student is dropped from the roll if he/she incurs an absence of more than 20% of the total class sessions.
MAKE UP CLASS
Make up classes may be scheduled any time outside of the regular schedule for the following reasons:
1. Completion of required topics for the specific grading period for lack of regular contact hours due to suspension of
classes for activities approved by the Vice President for Students Affairs or the Dean, transport strike, natural calamities,
and other circumstances beyond control.
2. Excused absence of the Instructor for health, or emergency reasons.
COOPERATIVE LEARNING
Students are expected to take responsibility when given a group activity. Group output shall satisfy the standards set for the
course. Any student who does not take responsibility of a task shall be given a rating of zero (0) in that particular activity.
INDIVIDUAL OUTPUT
Peer tutoring is encouraged among students so that learning shall also be facilitated. This additional knowledge from a peer shall
develop the capacity and interest of a student to work independently of a required output. However, a peer shall only serve as guide.
Copying of outputs of a tutor or a classmate is strictly prohibited. Putting together answers of several output is also prohibited. A
It is also encouraged that students approach their professors or avail of tutorial or academic consultation sessions to clarify some
instructions and topics or concepts not fully comprehended inside the classroom. Tutorial session or academic consultation is free of
charge.
DISCIPLINE
Students are expected to manifest control of their words and actions. While inside the classroom/laboratory, a student shall:
1. have the necessary learning materials needed. A student must have ball pen, paper, notes, calculator, or any relevant
learning tools required for a particular learning task.
2. avoid loud and unnecessary conversations inside the room and in the corridors.
3. engage actively in class activities like recitation and board works.
4. not cheat during quizzes and exams. Any form of cheating is subject to sanction. However, while waiting for the kind and
severity of sanction from the discipline officer, anybody who committed the act of cheating will automatically get a zero
percent (0%) in the activity.
5. not steal. Getting anything without the consent or knowledge of the owner/s can be classified as a form of stealing.
6. avoid unnecessary use of cellphones or any electronic device during class hours. If a situation necessitates their use inform
the teacher before the class starts.
7. not bring food/drinks inside the room.
8. be friendly, courteous and respectful to everyone.
COMPLAINTS
Complaints about points given to assignments, quizzes, and exams must be brought to the attention of the professor within 48
hours after their return. All points are considered correct and final afterwards. Make it a habit to keep all outputs in a long size brown
envelope as these serve as proofs in case of complaints about grades. At the end of the semester, the envelope shall be submitted to
the professor as part of the requirement of the course.
