Banana Peel for Acetylsalicylic Acid Retention

Ratinale of this study

These pharmaceuticals pollutants are consistently detected in different aquatic

environmental samples. The concentrations are usually detected in the order of µg∙L−1 and
ng∙L−1. The main sources of contamination are the hospitals and domestic sewage effluents.
These drugs and their metabolites may contaminate groundwater, rivers, lakes, and wastewater
treatment plants. Montagner and Jardim detected the presence of drugs pollutants in the
Atibaia River, Sao Paulo State, Brazil. Among the pharmaceuticals investigated were detected
acetylsalicylic acid, acetaminophen, diclofenac and others. The presence of these residues in the
environment induces undesirable biological responses in various types of organisms and may be
dangerous to human health. Therefore, the development of efficient and economical techniques
to remove these pollutants pharmaceuticals in the aqueous medium is very important

Purpose of this study

The purpose of this study is to show a method for adsorption involving banana peel (BP)
was studied to remove the pollutant acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in aqueous medium.

Statement of the problem

1. What is the effect of banana peel in terms of:

1.1 Analgesic drug

1.2 Anti-inflammatory drug

2. Is the pollutant acetylsalicylic acid remove in aqueous medium using the

banana peel?

The Expexted outcomes of this study

The expected outcome of this stuby is to show that bioadsorbent has satisfactory
maximum adsorption capacity (2.29 mg/g) for removing this analgesic and anti-inflammatory
drug in aqueous solution (pH 7.0) using the Langmuir mathematical model.
The Engineering goals of this study

The goal of this study is to show that the extract of the banana peel for
removing acetylsalicylic acid retention

The Laboratory testing

1. Water testing

The researchers were going to determine if the sample can be used in

acid retention
