Dear Parent or Guardian of Michael:

The purpose of this letter is to address educational issues I am having with your son in his
biology class. I am hoping that with your cooperation we can address this matter and provide
Michael with an understanding team who can be there to help him better succeed in the class.

The main problem that Michael is experiencing in class is that he is unable to perform
well during tests. I am concerned with this issue because Michael does so well in all other
aspects of the class. His homework is done well and accurately, his lab work is safe and follows
all guidelines, and his projects are complete with creativity and excitement. I think Micheal
might have testing anxiety which is hindering his overall performance in the class. Out of the
two tests the students have taken during this semester, he has scored a 62% and a 54%, and I
would like to work with you as a team to try to help him improve for the remaining two tests in
this semester. For this class, tests make up 20% of the overall grade; however, I give the students
a chance to remake one of their four tests so they have a chance to improve their grade, and I
think with the proper efforts we can help Michael better manage his anxiety so he can ace his
next tests, including his retake.
I feel that the best way to initially combat this issue would be to find ways to possibly
make the classroom more comfortable for Michael so that he might not feel as anxious and
pressured during tests. If there is no improvement maybe you and Michael can work together at
home and practice testing strategies. I feel that there is a lot of potential in Michael and I want to
see him succeed.
If you have any suggestions for such changes, please let me know and if you have any
questions, you may contact me at 602-***-****. If you would like a personal conference, please
contact me so we can set up an appointment whether over the phone or in person.

Sincerely,

Tenth Grade Biology Team
