VOCABULARY: DATES - ORDINAL NUMBERS

In most European languages have two forms: cardinal and ordinal.

Cardinal numbers are used to express quantity or amount.

I have two apples.

Ordinal numbers are used to state an order of items in reference to the others.

I am the second child. (in the group of my mother’s children, I am number 2)

 ORDINAL NUMBERS

The general rule is to add ‘--th’ at the end of the cardinal number, but
as you can see there are exceptions being numbers 1, 2 and 3 the most
important exceptions.

In numbers from 21 to 29 and 31 to 39 and 41 to 49 until 91 to 99 be

careful as it’s the unit number the one that is the ordinal number and not
the tens: sixty fifth and not sixtieth fifth or sixtieth five.
