Write a 300 to 500 words personal reflection on the value and significance of education in the

success of a person in the modern world. Keep in mind Jose Rizal’s undying commitment in
education in writing your personal essay.
Education opens the door for all kinds of opportunities and every individual has the right
to experience it. It is an essential part of one’s life as it improves the perception, existence, and
participation of a person in the world. As the common notion, education is the key to success.
When I was younger, I used to think that education is important because it is my only ticket to
having an easy life with a stable job and good salary or to simply say it, I believe that education
would turn my dreams into reality. Whilst this is true, growing up, little by little I realized that
education teaches us knowledge beyond what a textbook could give.
In my long journey of studying, I could say that I have acquired significant learnings that
I could use for my profession. However, other than that, what I could proudly say that I learned
throughout are the values, skills, and confidence that I have not only gained through my teachers
or my subjects but also through my experiences which shaped me into the person I am today.
Through education, we are being exposed to other culture that leads us to communicate, accept
and understand our environment which bring about growth and development in our holistic
personality. In like manner, it is also a way for every individual to gain wisdom and awareness of
our role in society.
Rizal claimed that through education, we could save the Philippines through the
domination of foreign people. And this is evident as to how Rizal applied his learnings in bringing
social change to the Philippines. From his young age, he took serious of his education and tried to
excel in the academe in spite of his mother's precautions. He went to foreign lands to gain further
knowledge useful in eradicating the repressive rule of Spaniards. And these are all because, for
him, the mission of education is to elevate the country to the highest seat of glory and to develop
the people's mentality.
Indeed, education is important as it does not only inculcate our critical thinking but also
because it promotes awareness of the laws in society, our rights and responsibilities as a citizen. I
believe that Rizal values education because he knows that it is one of the few power we can have
that no one could ever take away from us. We study because we want to know more. We study
because it gives is personal fulfillment. And most importantly, we study to save ourselves from
getting fooled. Because by knowing more, we will not be e asily taken advantage of.
