High BPM = Fast Low BPM = Slow Think of a heart beat. If it is beating 120bpm, that is a very fast heart beat. If it is beating 60bpm, that is a normal heart beat speed. How to Use Metronome? A metronome helps you stay on time. It usually already counts in 4/4 time. The ONE BEAT will usually be the loudest to show you the start. It is measured in BPM (beats per minute). The more BPM, the faster the metronome moves. The Click from the metronome will play QUARTER NOTES. You can practice playing 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 notes. You usually hit your sticks like this: (1,2,3,4) The song usually starts on the 1 beat. Measure: In 4/4 time, there are 4 beats in 1 measure. When you count 1-2-3-4-It repeats again. How many measures are in the example below? 1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234-1234 If you have to play a certain beat for 8 measures, sometimes you will get lost by | just counting 1 2 3 4. To help you out, replace the First beat with the number measure you are on. For example: 1234-2234-3234-4234-5234-6234-7234-8234 Crash Cymbals: The Crash symbols are usually hit with the kick drum and at the beginning of the song and after every 4 measures. The “C” represents when you will crash. Drum Lesson 5: 1 Drum Fill: A drum fill is used to add a bit more style to the song. It can be | very boring to just play the same beat over and over. A drum fill is used to make drum playing more fun and exciting. For example, as the song is approaching the 5‘ measure of the rhythm, the drummer may want to add a little bit of style. Instead of hitting the snare drum only, you can mix it up with TOMS. Instead of hitting the snare 8 times (3 e and ah, 4 e and ah) You can hit 2 times snare, 2 times tom#1, 2 times tom#2, and 2 times floor tom. Here are just a few things to keep in mind. * Don’t doa drum fill every measure. * Itis a good place to do a drum fill every 4" measure. * Always make sure your fill ends with a crash cymbal * Make sure you crash on the 1 count.
