FIBER OPTICS AT THE BEGINNING

ABSTRACT:
After completion of this lab we become familiar with fiber optics communication. We also learnt about
module KL-900D. Fiber-optic communication is a method of transmitting information from one place to
another by sending light through an optical fiber. An optical fiber is a flexible, transparent fiber made by
drawing glass (silica) or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than that of a human hair. As well as we
also become familiar with a module KL-900D that is used for transmission in this lab. The module has
analog as well as digital part. We are using 2 modules for transmission. First we transmit message that is
voice (analog transmission) from one module and hear voice on second module. Then we transmit
message digitally between 2 modules using transceiver mode. After that we will use one module and
transmit any message from module to PC. In last we will transmit any message from PC to module. So,
in this lab we familiarize with fiber optic communications by different modes.

INTRODUCTION:
In this lab we are doing communication between two modules also between module and PC. Module
KL-900D is self-contained equipment which is designed for the study of fiber optic communications
systems. The circuit of the module has two parts that is analog and digital circuit. Analog circuit
contains a microphone amplifier, momentary switch, optical transmitter and receiver, signal generator,
and audio amplifier. The digital circuit contains the microcontroller, matrix keyboard and interface. The
trainer has three modes that is transceiver mode, PC to Module and Module to PC mode. This all modes
performed in lab by sending messages.

CONCLUSION:
In this lab we become familiar with fiber optics, fiber optical communication as well as fiber optic
communication module KL-900D. We perform the practical communication between modules and PC.
We transmit and receive analog and digital data by using fiber optic cable.
