Experiment No.

Remarks and conclusion

While doing the experiment or test for determining the water content, unit weight, void
ratio, porosity and degree of saturation, the most significant error could occur by
(1) The balance is not calibrated properly or is sensitive to object being weighed on top.
(2) The weight distribution of soil in the moisture can is par from each container.
(3) The measured trimmed soil is not exact with ±0.5 discrepancy.

After careful consideration of all the computed results, and having two trials for each
standard test and the desired results, it is concluded that the following components of the soil is
as follows: w=46.16%, Gs=2.25 (passing the range of Gs of soil 2.25 – 2.85), e = 1.05, n =
51.22% and Sr = 98.9%

Experiment No. 7

Remarks and Conclusion

While doing the experiment for specific gravity test for soil, the moist significant error
could occur by
(1) The balance is not calibrated properly or is sensitive to object being weighed on top.
(2) The pycnometer is not properly wiped when weighing it
(3) The water when poured in the pycnometer does not totally occupy the space in
between the soil.

After careful consideration of all the computed results, and having two trials for
each standard test and the desired results, it is concluded that the computed specific gravity based
on the soil tested is, Gs=2.25 (passing the range of Gs of soil 2.25 – 2.85)
