“MUSIC. MEDICINE FOR THE MIND.

By

Josh Hughes
FADE IN:
SCENE 1
Camera starts at a mid-shot, focused on BEN as he sits there
staring into space, the camera begins to pan backward at a
slow pace as BEN give a first-person account of his ongoing
mental struggles.
BEN (V.O)
Lately I’ve felt like I have no control of
my life, I spend most my days sleeping or
sitting on this chair doing shit all. I’ve
stopped socializing and going out, all I
hear these days is the telly and that
stupid clock.
Camera switches to a closeup of the clock, the ticking
getting louder and louder until broken by a phone
notification.
SCENE: 2
The scene begins with a fade into focus closeup of BEN’s
phone, scrolling through twitter he sees a tweet.
The scene changes angles, with a mid to two shot showing BEN
calling LUCAS.
BEN
Hey, I saw your post earlier I’m in a
really tough place and was hoping you
could offer me some advice?
LUCAS
Yeah, no worries mate, the best advice I
can give is to listen to music, find a
song or artist that you really like and
just focus on the sound.
BEN
Thanks I’ll give that a try, really
appreciate it.
BEN hangs the phone up and walks out of shot.
SCENE: 3
This scene begins with a mid-shot of BEN putting on a pair
of headphones and selecting a song to listen to, the music

2
can be heard as if it is coming from the headphones until it
fades into full effect. BEN lies on his bed and begins to
just listen.
SCENE: 4
The scene switches to an outdoor one-shot in which BEN is
walking by a lake with headphones on, the only sound in the
shot is the music he is listening to. He stops to look at
the lake before a smile breaks out on his face. BEN then
walks towards the camera while smiling, walking out of frame
just shy of the camera.
SCENE: 5
This scene is heavily mirrored to scene 2, except BEN is the
one tweeting a message about reaching out for advice, he
gets a reply and then answers a phone call.
BEN
Yeah, no worries mate, the best advice I
can give is to listen to music, find a
song or artist that you really like and
just focus on the sound.
