BASELINE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The project will include the construction of pier including the reclamation works Located at Ngilay Road,

Brgy. Tambler, General Santos City which is at the Southern tip of Mindanao and lies between latitude 5°

58 to 6° 20 north and between longtitudes 125° 01’ to 125° 17 east. The City is approximately 1,000 radial

kilometers Southeast of Malina and 150 kilometers southwest of Davao City. It is bounded is the

Northeats by Polomolok on the west by Tboli on Southwest by the coastal town of Maasim, on the South

boundary is the Sarangani bay. (Please refer to attached Location Map under ES – Figure 2)

The area of the project covers 7,497 sq.m. which has already been issued a lease contract with the total

area of 5000 sq.m. This area is zonified as light industrial zone of the City Development and coordinating

Office of General Santos City. The building area and location covers about 2,360.95 sq.m. (Please refer to

attached Location map under ES – Figure 3)

The climate of General Santos City is characterized by even distribution of rainfall. Based on a 30-year

record from PAGASA, the municipality receives an annual rainfall of about 932.2 mm. June and July are

the wettest months while March is the driest month. Furthermore, the average annual temperature in

the study area is 27.70 C, while the average relative humidity is about 79%.

General Santos City registered a total population of 534,862.11 with annual population growth rate of

5.05 in 2005 based on the ENR Statistical profile of General Santos City. Commerce, industry and

agriculture play a major role in the economy of General Santos City. Being growth center in the locality,

trading, banking and services are active in the city. Likewise there are
