PROPOSAL FOR YOUTH COMMUNITY

I. Community Stationer

Barangay Libertad is located in the municipality of Palo, in the Province of Leyte. According to
the PhilAtlas the population if the place during 2015 was approximately 3,190, the age group with the
highest population in Libertad is 5 to 9, with 387 individuals. On the other hand, the age group with the
lowest population is 80 and over, with 15 individuals. In terms of economic profile Barangay Libertad is
the least in the improvements of infrastructures or other business for it is the last barangay of Palo
unlike the other Barangays that are nearer and has an instant connection to the municipality. Given the
fact that Libertad is a barangay, there are sitios that are under it in which some belongs to places that
are not highly urbanized.

In the section of political profile, the Barangay Captain as well as the councilors are very active
and approachable specially to projects that are visibly active up to now, but sometimes there are people
who does cooperate to some of the projects. The place is also rich in natural resources and some
individuals works or get their financial income in planting rice and looking after some rice fields. There
are also some programs in the previous times that deals in gardening and tree planting to preserve the
environmental stability of the place.

There are a lot of physical opportunities that is conducted in the barangay like they held some
basketball tournaments and trainings as well as other sports like volleyball, soccer and a lot more. This
kind of activities are being engaged by most teenagers and youths rather than engaging to drinking of
alcoholic beverages and smoking. There are some socio cultural aspects that are being performed by the
people of the barangay and its unhanging tradition and values in order for the new generation of the
place to inherit it.

II. Community Case Analysis

In the history of the community of Libertad it is considered that the present time is very
progressive and this was after the devastation of super typhoon Yolanda with an international name
Haiyan that left the people in grief. Houses, buildings, businesses have been destroyed by this
catastrophe. It was the downfall of the place as well as the whole Eastern Visayas rather in which it took
a lot of lives and left everyone with nothing. Thankfully with the assistance of the government, non-
government units, and especially the assistance of other countries to the people the change of
everything has been made possible. According to the officials a change must be started little by little so,
they cooperated and did their best in everything for the progress to happen. The effect of such tragedy
will never be forgotten by the people. The sad part here is that some group or families doesn’t have that
capacity or financial stability to support themselves.

The economic profile of the place decreased after the typhoon and is now having a progress.
Some of the farmers also had a decrease in terms of financial income because of the environmental
change or the impact of the typhoon to the natural resources. The socio cultural of people didn’t change
in fact, it is always remembered and in this happenings the unity of the people stands out in the hearts
and minds of the people.
III. Recommended Plan of Action

Since the place of Barangay Libertad Palo, Leyte is progressing but there are people who are left
behind, I am planning for an action or program that will at least help some children and share what I can
offer. I am planning to encourage my co-youth members in our ministry to cooperate with me because
as an active youth member we, have the capacity and ability to do some interactive activities that will
build knowledge and relationship to those children on some Sitios. I want to have an educational sharing
wherein we will teach the young ones about a certain topic, also I want to have a collaborative cleanup
drive within the community and a feeding program. I believe that with this small act we will be able to
learn and discover something at the same time to help those who are in need.
