Charlie Chaplin – Police 1916

(The day come, Charlie is released from prison. He has nothing but few dollars in his poor pocket. He
doesn’t know where to go. Then a fake parson comes along, he is trying to swindle Charlie)

Thief/ Fake pason : Hello, Sir! Oh you, don’t be so sad. I’m telling you that God is so good. He will
help us no matter what. Let me tell you a liitle bit about this Bible verses …… bla
bla bla

(The fake parson advices Charlie to go straight)

Charlie : (feel touched) (crying)

Thief/ Fake pason : Oh come on , Sir! Find me you if you need any help. I will do my best to
help you.

Charlie : Thank you very very much. It is very nice to meet you. (Shake hand)

Thief/ Fake pason : It is my pleasure. (Shake hand and doing his action. He successfully steals
Charlie’s money)

(Charlie goes away and finds a drunk old man with his gold necklace on. Charlie wants to steal
that necklace but he is not brave enough. He is so doubt. He grabs the necklace, then put it down.
Grab it, and put it down again. He looks arround to make sure that nobody is watching him. He
grabs the necklace and put it down again. In the end, he undo his intention to steal that gold
necklace from that old man and go away)

(Charlie walks around and decides to stop at a fruit shop. He tries all the fruits without notice that
he has no more money in his pocket)

Fruit Seller :Hey you, it is $3 each.

Charlie : (trying the fruit) hmm.. it’s tasted weird, not delicious. (Take another fruit and try)

Fruit Seller : No more tester for you, pay me $3!

Charlie : (Still trying another fruit)

Fruits Seller : I’m telling you, no tester. Pay me your $3.

Charlie : (Take more fruits to try)


Fruits Seller : (Get angry and give a kick for Charlie at his back) Hey, can you hear me? I’m
telling you not to try all my fruits. Give me your money! It is no tester available
for all customers or even you!

Charlie : Come on, Sir. Calm down. Give me one banana, please.

Fruits Seller : This is the last, hmm..

(Charlie reaches into his pocket, and can not find his money. Then, Charlie slowly run away from
the seller because he just realized that he has no more money in his pocket.)

(Then, Charlies walks around and tries to find if only his money was fell down. Suddenly, Charlie
meets the fake parson and the drunk man)

Fake Parson : Oh, Sir! I have to go now. Nice to meet you again. See you. (Shake Hand)

Charlie : (Shake Hand)

(Charlie then realized that the gold necklace on the drunk man is already gone. He is now sure
that the gold necklace and his money were stolen by the fake parson. Charlie chases the thief, but
its too late. The thief has run away)
