PODCAST PLAN

ORIGINS
JAMES GUTHRIE - OCTOBER 7, 2019

DESCRIPTION
Have you ever wondered why things around you are the way they
are. Were you ever curious about how things you use every day like
the pencil or paperclip originated? Or even questions like why tennis
balls are yellow, why stop signs are an octagonal shape, or the origin
of the high five? ORIGINS is a podcast that focuses on many of
these random questions and helps give explanations and the history
behind all these things. By exploring the history and origin behind
seemingly small and normal everyday things, this helps in making us
more aware of how these things have actually completely shaped
and changed the world around us.

TITLE OF PODCAST
ORIGINS

PODCAST TOPIC

ORIGINS is a podcast that focuses primarily on the hidden and

unknown story behind the origin of popular everyday objects and
how they evolved and transformed into what they are today.
GENRE OF PODCAST

ORIGINS would fit in the historical/trivial genre of podcasts. This is

because the topics that would be discussed on the show would be
more about the history behind the object discussed as well as
unknown facts about the object.

DESCRIPTION OF HOST
This podcast is solely hosted by me. I am a Fine Arts major with an
emphasis in drawing but have always been interested in
mathematical and historical topics. I have been involved in studio art
as well as theatre for the past eight years and have had the
opportunity to showcase some of my art at museums like the
Phoenix Art Museum.

ESTIMATED LENGTH OF SHOW

The average length of ORIGINS is around ten to fifteen minutes

long. With my show focusing more towards historical themes,
shorter episodes work best in explaining each topic without boring
the listener with an extended amount of information. Though my
show is historical based, by making it shorter in length, hopefully this
will encourage other listeners who are maybe not as interested in
trivial and historical topics to listen.

PROPOSED FREQUENCY OF SHOW

The frequency of the show would most likely be an episode every

month. Though the themes talked about in this show are interesting
enough to do one show per week, the amount of topics being
discussed on the show would take a good amount of time to
research and make a good well written episode.

This format was chosen for each podcast to help in creating a

cohesive flow in each podcast. Since topics vary, by having main
points to hit in each episode like origin, history, and use today are
helpful in giving the listener an understanding on what section in the
podcast they are at.

SCRIPT VS OUTLINE
For this particular podcast, having a script for each episode instead
of just an outline is more beneficial to me. Since the form of the
podcast is heavily history based, having a script in hand helps in
talking about the historical points accurately in each episode as well
as help in organization with the podcast episodes. By having it all
written out before hand, this helps me to understand the topic being
talked about better.

COVER IMAGE

For my podcast cover image, I decided to create a more abstract

design. To go with the theme of most modern podcast covers, I
went with a more minimalistic design as well as only use a small
amount of colors on the cover. By having the yellow, orange, and
red colors on the cover, this helps in making the cover stand out
from other covers as well as make the cover look more retro in
design similar to the topics and objects discussed on the show.

3
Since, the topics vary widely in each episode, I decided to go with
not a single object on the cover but more focusing just on shapes
and colors instead. Also, by making the title of the podcast in the
center with all caps and bold letters, this makes the cover distinct
and easy to recognize from far away.
