ENGLISH 8 DAILY LESSON LOG

FIRST QUARTER
Wednesday (July 2, 2019)

I. OBJECTIVES:

A. CONTENT STANDARD:
 The learner demonstrates understanding of: African as a means of exploring
forces that human beings contend with; various reading styles vis-à-vis purposes
of reading ; prosodic features that serve as carriers of meaning; ways by which
information may be organized, related, and delivered orally; parallel structures
and cohesive devices in presenting information.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
 The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering an informative speech
based on a specific topic of interest keeping in mind the proper and effective use
of parallel structures and cohesive devices and appropriate prosodic features,
stance and behavior.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES/ OBJECTIVES:

 Determine the meaning of idiomatic expressions


 Appreciate the use of idiomatic expressions
 Use idiomatic expressions in the given differentiated task. (illustration, acting,
writing a story, and a prayer)

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson:

 Ask the students to recall the lesson last meeting


 Let the students decode the mystery words which will reveal the topic for today.

 Let the students to read the purpose and objectives of the lesson.

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson:

 Let the students answer the given question flashed in the screen.
1. What will you do if your friend told you to “bring the house down”?
2. You heard the judge of a reality show; say that the contestant showed,
“crocodile tears”?

D. Discussing new concepts

 Ask the students about their prior knowledge of idiomatic expressions.


 Let the student read the definitions of idiomatic expressions.

Group 1: Make an illustration of the idiom assigned to you in a way that can be
understood by your grade level (grade 8) Assign three (3) members to do the following
tasks:
a. present the idiom and give its meaning
b. explain the drawing
c. Give a sentence using the idiom
Group 2: You have been given three (3) idioms. Act them out for the rest of the class to
guess. Assign three members to use each idiom in a sentence.
Group 3: Write a “Can you believe it?” story using at least three (3) idioms you have
learned today. Read the story before the class.
Group 4: Write a poem using at least three (3) idioms you have learned today. Recite the
poem in front of the class.
Group 5: Compose a short song using at least three (3) idioms you have learned today.
Perform the song in front of the class.
F. Developing mastery (Leading to Formative Assessment):
 Let the students share their appreciation in learning idiomatic expressions.

G. Finding Practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living:


 Ask the students about the importance of idiomatic expressions.

 Assignment: List 5 idioms in your province and give their English equivalent.
You may ask the help of your Lolo and Lola as well as family members in
accomplishing this task. Be ready to share your list in class next meeting.
