PEF Preferred List New School or Program Request Process
What is the PEF Preferred List?
The PEF Preferred List is a list of good jobs in your area and the
local programs and schools that will lead to these jobs. The PEF
Preferred List helps you by making sure you acquire skills and
training that are in demand in the local economy. PEF loans are
approved only for programs and schools found on the PEF
Preferred List. Before applying for a PEF loan, you should search
the PEF Preferred List and select a preapproved school and
program.
What if the school or program I want to attend is not on the
PEF Preferred List?
If the school or program you want to attend is not on the PEF
Preferred List, you have three options:
1. Search the PEF Preferred List and choose a different school
and program that will meet your education and employment
goals from the list.
2. Explore different options for funding your education other than
applying for a PEF loan.
3. Request that the school or program you want to attend be
added to the PEF Preferred List.
How do I request that a new school or program be added to
the PEF Preferred List?
The process of requesting that a new school or program be
added to the PEF Preferred List will require significant time and
effort on your part, and there is no guarantee that the request will
be approved. In order to request that a new school or program
be added to the PEF Preferred List, you will have to:

If this request is approved and if I receive a PEF loan, I agree
to do everything in my power to graduate from the program,
become self-reliant, and pay back my PEF loan in full.
I understand that fulfilling this commitment will also enable others
to receive the blessings of the Perpetual Education Fund.

1. Contact your stake self-reliance specialist or local Self-
Reliance Services manager.
2. Fill out the PEF Preferred List New School and Program
Request form below.
3. Gather all required supporting documentation.
4. Submit the request (completed form and supporting
documentation) to your local Self-Reliance Services manager.
What happens after I submit the request?
Once you complete and submit the request, your local Self-
Reliance Services manager, as well as the area office of the
Perpetual Education Fund, will review it.
How long will the process take after I’ve submitted my
request?
The review process may take up to two weeks. If approved, it
may take an additional week to add the new school or program to
the PEF Preferred List.
Can my request be denied?
Yes, it is possible that your request will be denied. In this case,
you will have to choose a different school or program from the
PEF Preferred List or find a different source of funding other than
a PEF loan.
What if my request is approved?
If your request is approved, your Self-Reliance Services manager
will notify you. The approved program or school will then be
added to the PEF Preferred List located at pef.lds.org and will
also be available for selection in the online loan application.

a school or program that meets my education and employment
goals.
