III. Mods That Improve Visuals

Distant Object Enhancement by Rubber Ducky Allows you to see the reflected light from other planets and even crafts from far away. By default, this mod drastically darkens
the skybox to add realism. This feature can be disabled by changing "changeSkybox = True" to "changeSkybox = False" in
Settings.cfg.

Proot's Renaissance Compilation Modifies the look and feel of KSP. Unfortunately the many textures this mod includes are not distributed separately, and the
mod contains non-visual components, so I didn't include Renaissance Compilation in the Textures list. Individual textures

rbray89's Active Texture Management (ATM) KSP on Windows is restricted to less than 4GB of memory, which results in out-of-memory crashes for many people. ATM
drastically reduces RAM usage of textures and is highly recommended if you have many custom parts or high resolution
textures. Running KSP in opengl mode is an alternative solution to memory reduction that works for many people. See FAQ.

Q: TextureReplacer or Universe Replacer?

IV. FAQ
Use TextureReplacer (TR). Universe Replacer (UR) is no longer being developed. You can use UR textures in TR by moving files to where they belong in TR (See TR
thread first post). Files may also need to be converted to TGA format.

Q: When should TextureReplacer textures use TGA, PNG, or JPG?

See the "Texture Format Guide" in the first post of the TextureReplacer thread.

Q: How do I get those awesome clouds I see in all the screenshots?

Use the Environmental Visual Enhancements mod (EVE) by rbray89.

Q: Can I mix and match textures from different packs / mods?

Yes! In addition, you don't need to install all of the mods that a pack uses if you're only using some of the textures. The mods you need to install depend on the name of
the folder that the textures are found in. For example, any textures found inside the BoulderCo folder require EVE.

Q: I installed a texture but nothing changed!

That's not a question, but this can happen when you have more than one texture that has the same filename but different extensions.

Q: I'm on a Mac and 8K textures don't seem to work?

8K textures do not work on Mac.

Q: I installed some textures and now my game crashes sometimes!

First, try running KSP in opengl mode. This fixes memory issues for most people. (Link)
Try installing rbray89's Active Texture Management mod. (Link)
As of Version 0.24, KSP supports 64-bit on Windows. Unfortunately, as of 0.25 64-bit is still very unstable. Finally, KSP 64-bit has been stable on Linux for some time
so you could try that!
