WHAT IS INTERNET OF THINGS?

Internet of Things (IOT) is a system of

interrelated computing devices, mechanical and
digital machines, objects, animals or people
that are provided with unique identifiers and
ability to transfer data over a network without
requiring human-to-human or human-to-
computer interaction.
A BIT HISTORY ABOUT IOT

 Kelvin Ashton, a cofounder and executive

director of the Auto-ID Centre at MIT, first
mentioned the Internet of Things in a
presentation he made in a conference at
Procter and Gamble in year 1999.
FROM EVOLUTION TO REVOLUTION
WITH IOT:
 The idea is that our
devices will be able to
communicate with each
other.
 David, along with Adrian
Bowles, founder and
CEO at STORM Insights
were as the chief guest in
this conversation. Adrian Bowles
WHY IS IOT GROWING IN POPULARITY?

 It creates opportunities for enterprises to develop new

services which will offer consumers convenience and
satisfaction.
 Recently Google announced that it is partnering with
Audi, General motors and Honda to put Android-
connected cars on the road. It is developing new Android
platform that will connect cars to internet.

Four Basic models identified by
Gartner that are emerging:
 Manage.
 Monetize.

 Operate.

 Extend. Gartner

These can be applied to people, things,

information , and places and therefore the so
called “internet of Things” will be succeeded by
the “Internet of Everything”.
EXAMPLES OF IOT TECHNOLOGY IN USE
TODAY

Thermostat –. The Nest

Learning Thermostat is
called like that because it can
learn your schedule so it could
program itself to increase or
Nest Smart Thermostat
reduce the heating levels, thus
reducing your bills.
Obviously, you can control it
from your phone.
EXAMPLE:
Watching over the temperature
and humidity levels, turn off the
lights when you’re not at home or
even send an SMS when someone
is at your front door. A wireless
Window & Door sensor can let
you know when your door is
opened or images of someone
who is moving in front of your
Ninja Block door can be stored to your
Dropbox account.
EXAMPLE:

Withings is a company well-known for making

gadgets to look after your health and help you
keep fit. The Smart Body Analyzer is a smart
scale that can do so much more than just letting
you keep a eye on your weight. It comes with
an impressive set of feature – full body
knowledge, heart measurement, weight goals
and long-term progress graph and indoor air
Smart Body Analyzer quality monitoring.

ADVANTAGES OF INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)

 Information on almost every subject.

 Powerful search engines.

 Message board.

 Email , free mail service to anyone in country.

 Video conferencing.
CONCLUSION

 Need for more large-scale IOT and big data

testing and experimentation
 In developed countries majority people are
living in City whereas in developing countries
they are still living in rural area
 IOT, Big data and Cloud are the future of the
world
