LEAVE TAKING
hen you want to take your leave of someone it is often necessary to
use some introductory sentence. Usually people do not suddenly quit
talking, say good-bye, and leave each other abruptly; ending a
conversation normally takes some time. This involves two kinds on interactions:
preclosings and closings. Preclosings are phreses that signal the end of a
conversation; closings are phrases that explicitly end the conversation.
UNIT 1

Preclosings:

 Well, I’m afraid I have to be going.

 It’s been a pleasure.
 Thank you for the advice.
 I really must go now.
 I know you’re busy...
 Maybe we could get together
sometime.

Closings:

 Until the next time...

 Good night.
 Good-bye
 Have a nice (weekend).
 Talk to you later.
 See you later.
