1 Scope of Work
Design, supply, install, connect, test and commissioning of earth mat for safety, grounding and
lightning protection in accordance with the Specifications / Contract stipulations herein for all
other contractors(Project Contractors)in the station, tunnels and terminate at respective rooms
with earth bus.

Earthing for DG Sets and lightning protection system shall be separately provided at ground level
Ancillary Building.

This document covers the details of Installation, Testing & Commissioning of Main Earth Mats and
Clean Earth Mat. The Main Earth Mats will be used to connect the all Electrical Equipment of ASS-
1, ASS-2, Electrical Panel Room, Sump Panel Room etc. and Clean Earth Mat will be used for systems
Rooms (As per Contract Document) for grounding the system. The document aims to highlight and
elaborate the various activities in brief order to ascertain a better understanding for start of work.

The scope of work covers the following activity:

Stattions- Domestic T1 and International T2

Soil Resistivity Measurement.

The Soil Resistivity test is conducted to measure:

 Quantum of resistance offered by soil to flow of electricity or
 Volume of soil to determine conductivity of soil.
Soil resistivity is expressed in ohm-meter.
An understanding of the soil resistivity and how it varies with depth in the soil is a mandatory
parameter to design earthing system. The resistance to earth of a given earth system depends upon
the electrical resistivity of the soil in which it is installed. While the fundamental nature and properties
of a soil in a given area cannot be changed, proper analysis and estimation of soil resistivity is
important in deciding which of many protective systems to adopt.

Soil Resistivity Test is done by using 4 POINT WENNER METHOD

Page 3

There is a variation in measured soil resistivity of approx. 29.6% to 101.36% in any given direction. Since,
in a majority of the directions the variation of measured resistivity values was more than 30%, as per IS
3043 cl 36.6 the measured soil resistivity does not fit into uniform Soil Model and hence can be classified
as non-uniform soil.

Since the soil is non-uniform, multi-layer soil model as derived from the RESAP module of CDEGS software
for the measured values after applying moisture correction factor as per the curve given in IEEE 80 fig 17
is used to determine the multi-layer soil resistivity. Accordingly, the Earth mat is designed using CDEGS
software with Multi-Layer soil modeling.
