Abstract:-
The main objective of this project is to develop a home automation system using an Arduino
board with Bluetooth being remotely controlled by any Android OS smart phone. As
technology is advancing so houses are also getting smarter. Modern houses are gradually
shifting from conventional switches to centralized control system, involving remote controlled
switches. Presently, conventional wall switches located in different parts of the house makes it
difficult for the user to go near them to operate. Even more it becomes more difficult for the
elderly or physically handicapped people to do so. Remote controlled home automation system
provides a most modern solution with smart phones.
In order to achieve this, a Bluetooth module is interfaced to the Arduino board at the receiver
end while on the transmitter end, a GUI application on the cell phone sends ON/OFF
commands to the receiver where loads are connected. By touching the specified location on the
GUI, the loads can be turned ON/OFF remotely through this technology. The loads are operated
by Arduino board through opt isolators and thyristors using triacs.

Introduction:-
Automation is the essence of today’s world. Automation can make our life easy and secure.
There are many ways to obtain automation. Automation can be achieved by Wi-Fi, IR, GSM,
Bluetooth and many other technologies.
Nowadays, people have smartphones with them all the time. So it makes sense to use these to
control home appliances. Presented here is a home automation controlling system by smart
phone using Arduino, which you can use to control electrical appliances. Commands are sent
via Bluetooth to Arduino Uno. So, you need not get up to switch on or switch off the device
while watching a movie or doing some work.
In this project, we will design a simple home automation project using simple components
using which different electrical appliances can switched on or off. The project is based on
Arduino and we have used Arduino UNO for the project. In this project we are to going to
Control Home Appliances using Bluetooth and Arduino. We will show here that how to control
electric appliances by simply sending data from Android Smart phone to Arduino.
Theory :-
The home automation circuit is built around an Arduino Uno board, Bluetooth module HC-05
and a 3-channel relay board. The number of channels depends on the number of appliances you
wish to control. Arduino Uno is powered with a 12V DC adaptor/power source. The relay
module and Bluetooth module can be, in turn, powered using a board power supply of Arduino
Uno.

Bluetooth Module:-The Bluetooth Module used in this project is HC- 05. As seen in
the image below, this Bluetooth module has 4 – pins for VCC (5V), ground, TX and RX.
This Bluetooth can be used with Bluetooth enabled phone (or tablet or laptop) and the
range of this module is approximately 10 meters.

Home automation and Device controlling can be done using Internet of Things – IOT
technology
The home automation system has been experimentally proven to work satisfactorily by
connecting sample appliances to it and the appliances were successfully controlled from a
wireless mobile device. The Bluetooth client was successfully tested on a multitude of different
mobile phones from different manufacturers, thus proving its portability and wide
compatibility.
