CHAPTER I
PRELIMINARY

1.1 Background

In human life is very closely related to communication. Humans

communicate to share knowledge and experience. Through
communication, attitudes and feelings of a person or group of people
can be understood by other parties. However, communication will
only be effective if the message delivered can be interpreted by the
recipient of the message.
In the real world in general, we often use letters to preach news. But
the lack of media letters is the length of time required from the sender
to the recipient. This problem can be solved by using telephone media.
But unfortunately if you use a telephone for long distance callers and
telephone recipients, it usually requires a fee that is not cheap,
because it uses SLJJ or SLI (International Direct Dialing). Therefore we
need another media that can help overcome these time, distance and
cost constraints.
Today communication becomes faster, more effective and efficient
with advances in science and technology. Technology has become an
inseparable part of human life in the present era. It can even be said
that all aspects of life such as the social, political and economic fields
have come into contact with technology.
One of the developments in communication and information
technology is e-mail. As is true with correspondence through postal
services, e-mail is able to handle mailing services in the form of
electronic data (files), including e-cards. E-mail can facilitate
communication between people. The use of e-mail can save costs,
time and energy because e-mail will accelerate the sending of letters
from one person to another in a short time and simultaneously.
Technology has accelerated communication and is able to strengthen
human relations from various parts of the world. Globalization is the
development and evolution of telecommunications that helps send
information quickly.
The use of the internet all over the world has made it possible for
people and companies to easily communicate and have access to very
large amounts of data.

1.2 Problem formulation

Based on the above background, there are several problems, namely:

· How to make e-mail?

· What are the types of e-mail?
· What are the benefits of using e-mail in everyday life?

1.3 Purpose
To fulfill the task of English,
So that students, especially Krisnadwipayana University, can better
understand, know and understand everything about e-mail that
makes students become more creative and deepen the information
and communication technology knowledge
CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION

2.1 Definition of E-Mail

Email is an abbreviation of Electronic Mail, or in the Indonesian
language Surat Elektronik, which is a letter that is sent using electronic
means by the internet network, by electronic mail or email someone
can send text texts, pictures, or even send applications or files to
someone who certainly also has e-mail (e-mail) in a very short time.
Because this email uses the internet network, the address also adjusts
to the email service provider on the internet. Examples of email
service providers are http://www.mail.yahoo.com,
http://www.mail.google.com, and others. As is the case with
correspondence through postal services, e-mail is able to handle news
and document delivery services in the form of electronic data (files),
including e-card services (electronic greeting cards). To take
advantage of email facilities, previously had to have an email address,
which is commonly called an email address or email account. An email
account can be obtained from an email facility provider site. Until
now, many e-mail facilities are provided free of charge by local and
international internet sites (their functions are not differentiated).
Electronic mail or e-mail has been used since the 1960s. The concept
of e-mail itself was first put forward by Ray Tomlinson, a computer
engineer at the end of 1971. And in 1972, Ray introduced the "@" icon
as an e-mail identity to separate user ID and domain from an e-mail
address meaning " at ”.
2.2 Type of E-mail
Of course we are familiar with what is called e-mail. We have used e-
mail in various activities, for example for school work, office business
and others. Judging from the services provided, there are three types
of e-mail used today, including POP MAIL, Web-Based E-Mail and E-
Mail Forwarding. Each type of e-mail has advantages and
disadvantages.
1. POP MAIL (pop-based email)
Is an email that uses a POP server that is a computer that can send e-
mail from users to the intended e-mail address and vice versa. On the
POP server all e-mail sent to users and already have an account on the
account server will be stored in a directory. then when the user
contacts the server, all e-mail addressed to him will be sent to the
client computer, vice versa when the user wants to send e-mail to an
address, the e-mail will be sent to the POP server and then will be
forwarded at the destination address.
The advantage of POP-based e-mail is that it can be read offline
(not connected to the internet). Checking e-mail can be done by
connecting the computer to the internet then downloading e-mail
from the e-mail address server and disconnecting from the internet.
After reading and making a reply, we can reconnect the computer to
the internet and send a reply e-mail that has been made. In this way,
we do not need to linger connected to the internet, so that the cost of
internet access becomes cheaper.
The disadvantage of POP mail is that we cannot open e-mail
from any place. If you want to do it on another computer, you must
first reset it. In addition, if you use Internet access, the calculation of
the fee is based on the file downloaded, not based on the duration of
the connection, the costs will be the same. To download e-mail from
the e-mail address server and send replies, we must have a client mail
program, such as MS Outlook, Eudora, MS Outlook Express, Pegasus
or Netscape Communicator.

2. Web-based e-mail
Web based mail is an e-mail service offered by websites of e-mail
service providers such as Yahoo (mail.yahoo.com), Google
(gmail.google.com), hotmail (www.hotmail.com) and others other.
The advantages of web-based mail are usually given free of charge
by the website in question. In addition, we can also check e-mail from
anywhere. The disadvantage of this type of e-mail is that e-mail
reading can only be done online, so it requires a greater connection to
the internet. Even so, some e-mail service provider websites are
accompanied by POP3 facilities.
3. E-mail forwarding
Is an e-mail service that forwards e-mail that it receives from another
e-mail address. This type of e-mail is useful for people who like to
change e-mail addresses. The advantage of e-mail forwarding is that
we can hide the real e-mail address. In addition, if we change the e-
mail address, we do not need to know the new e-mail address. Simply
provide your e-mail forwarding address. Lack of this type of e-mail is
because it is only an intermediary and must forward the e-mail
received to another address. The e-mail requires a longer time to
reach the real e-mail address.
