Discussion
In this experiment ,the amount of nitrate, nitrite and nitrogen in waste water sample is
measured. It is measured by some method which is reduction ,diazotization and salicylate
method is used respectively. The excessive amount of nitrate ,nitrite ,and nitrogen compound in
ammonia in water may cause from the fertilizer applied to the soil which effect health risk .

Nitrate is the compound where is made up of nitrogen and oxygen where when nitrogen from
ammonia or other sources combines with the oxygen from water. While Nitrite is nitrogen-
oxygen chemical unit which combine with organic and inorganic materials and nitrogen is
common to life on earth and could be found in all living system.

For experiment 6,reduction method by cadmium is used to measure the amount of nitrate in the
waste water sample and from the result we could see the amount of nitrate in waste water is
2.80 mg/l.The amount is accepted as it is in the given range for nitrate in which s within of
0.00mg/l to 30.00 mg/l.In the nitraVer 5 5 high range test conducted ,the function of the
cadmium is to reduce nitrate to nitrite.y

While in experiment 7,the amount of nitrite in the wastewater is 0.008.The amount of nitrite in
water is pretty much in the range of 0.00 mg/l to 0.350 mg/l .The water sample have oxygen
which made it could oxidize to form nitrite where nitrite is the intermediate compound in the
nitrification process where its rarely find high in concentration at surface water but could be in
abundance in in sample form biological force.

For the experiment 8,in waste water is 0.12 mg/l.The result can be attributed to the presence of
oxygen that oxidize ammonia to nitrite and then nitrite .However the value is too small that is
likely it can converted. The amount of nitrogen must be in the range of 0.00 mg/l to 0.50 mg/l to
be classified as safe .
As for the experiment there is need some precaution step need to be check which while
handling each experiment we have to make sure the right programme number is set up before
put the sample. Other than that, the reagent blank correction by using deionized water to get
accurate result in every experiment.

Conclusion.
The amount of nitrate, nitrite and nitrogen in water sample is 2.80,0.008, 0.12 mg/l respectively
which it is the range that is stated.

Question
1) List some sources of nitrogen in water and waste water.
a) From agriculture activities where the chemical fertilizer used applied to crops to add
nutrient.
b) Storm water where when the precipitation falls, it runs across hard surfaces like
rooftops, sidewalk and walks which carries pollutant which may e nitrogen into local
waterways.
c) improperly treated wastewater.
d) septic systems
e) Decompose of organism where the soil will absorb the released ammonium which
will oxidized to nitrite, nitrates and compound of nitrogen.
2) What is the environmental effect of excessive nitrogen in water.
Excess of nitrogen could cause rapid growth of aquatic plants and algae where could
cause clog water intake ,use up of dissolved oxygen as they decompose and cause
light block in the water eutrophication could occur which could make the fish is died.
Some of the sources of water is used for drinking water which can bring harmfulness to
human health.
