NAWAKKULI, JAFFNA, PADAVI AND SOUTH VAVUNIYA
ON 26TH TO 28TH OF OCTOBER 2019

You will be happy to hear that the following activities were carried out during this period

The following medical clinics were held at the venues as given below.

1. 26th October from 1.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. at Parakumba Viharaya, Sinhapura, Padaviya
2. 26th October from 5.00 p.m. – 10.00 p.m. at Dharamaloka Pirivena, Padvi-Sripura
3. 27th October from 10.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m. at Community Centre, Nandimithragama, South Vavuniya

27th to 28th October – Conduction of Katina Pinkama at Samidu Sumana Viharaya Nawakkuli, Jaffna
The Maha Piritha was held on Sunday night followed by Katina Pinkama on Monday morning. This was conducted
by Success-Colombo with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army Jaffna Brigade headed by Major General Ruwan
Wanigasuriya. Success-Colombo constructed the kitchen, renovated the toilets at a cost of - Rs.500,000/-. The
Army constructed the pirith mandapaya, conducted the perahara and provided the meals to all. Success-Colombo
conducted the Katina pinkama and Maha piritha and provided the cost of transport and pirikara to all the monks.
The estimated cost was around Rs.250,000/-. Over 50 monks participated in the Katina pinkama.

The following activities were carried out at the medical clinics:-

1. Observance of Pansil and observance of 2 minutes silence in memory of our fallen Ranawiru
2. Talk about the aims and activities of Success - Colombo and health education talks about hazards of
smoking, alcoholism & betel chewing by Dr. Anula Wijesundere
3. Examination of about 800 patients and distribution of free medicines
4. Distribution of exercise books and pencils donated by Mr. & Mrs. Singha Weeraskera and Mrs. Priyanthi
Scharenguivel.
5. Books on “Injury prevention in children” and posters produced by the Sri Lanka Medical Association were
handed over for distribution in schools of Padavi-Sripura, Anuradhapura and South Vavuniya
6. Classes in English and etiquette were conducted by Mrs. Lakshmini Wickramasinghe
7. Advice about infant feeding was given by Pediatrician and Dr. Sujatha Wijekoon
8. Posters on “Injury prevention in children” produced by the Sri Lanka Medical Association in the Tamil
medium were handed over Major Gen. Wanigasuriya for distribution among the Jaffna schools. Similar
posters in Sinhala were handed over to Major Gen. Wanigasuriya for distribution among the Army camps.

We are very grateful to the Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva for providing us transport. We thank
Major Gen. Ruwan Wanigasuriya for providing all assistance from the Jaffna Brigade of the Sri Lanka Army for
the successful completion of the Katina pinkama.
