Mr. Austin Fought,

In response to your open position for a Naturalist at OSS for Fall of 2022- Spring of 2024, I am
including my resume for your consideration. I was excited to hear of an open position for an OSS
Naturalist. I was referred to this position beforehand by Jacob Baynes, one of your Naturalists,
and a co-worker of mine in the summers working at Kidder Creek. I have been considering this
position all throughout my college years, as it has been on my mind to work at OSS after I finish
school. I believe this position would be an excellent segway out of school for me, considering
my chosen career path and experience.

As you know, I am a second year student at Feather River College, with plans to graduate with
my AA in Outdoor Recreational Leadership. I then, however, plan on finishing two years at
Southern Oregon University to receive my bachelors in Outdoor Adventure Leadership. It is
when I have accomplished this, that I plan on applying for OSS, considering your required
bachelor’s degree for the position. My experience in the Outdoor Education field fits this
position perfectly. I have plenty of experience working with kids as a Kidder Creek employee the
past few summers. I have instructor experience only a handful of times; for I was an instructor
for an outdoor school in Plumas County this past year. I am not worried about my lack of
experience teaching, due to the fact that I feel confident and poised in this field, as well as the
fact that the requirements for this position only included that of a completed Bachelor's degree.
As you know, I have shadowed Jacob Baynes this past fall, however would like to make it down
again in the next two years to get a better feel of the program and how things run on a day-to-day
basis. Some strengths that I have that fit this position perfectly is teaching kids, as well as being
an example of a mature leader and staff member throughout the OSS community. With that being
said, I also noticed on your website that you are a faith-based organization, not specifically
leading kids to Christ at OSS, but with the intention of hiring staff that flourish in a like-minded
community. I thrive in these environments as I am someone that is motivated by a strong, Christ
centered community. I am passionate about teaching in the outdoors and working with kids, and
given my anticipated Bachelor's completion, I feel that I am a perfect fit for your program.

I would like to schedule an interview with you either over the phone or at your location. You can
reach me at the following email; paytonbirch44@gmail.com, or at the following phone number;
(530)340-5912. Email is best. I can be reached most easily late afternoons/evenings, 3-5 pm.
Thank you again for the opportunity and your consideration.

Sincerely,

Payton Birch
