Essential Question:
What is solfege and how can we use it in music?
What are the correct ways to play Boom whackers?
Objectives:
SWBAT recite solfege syllables in order, attaching them to pitches.
SWBAT coordinate between Boom whackers and solfege syllables, with the help of a color-
coded solfege ladder.
Standards:

Materials:
Piano, projector, Boom whackers, solfege ladder, clarinet

Procedures:

1. Greeting – Hello song


a. With motions
2. Solfege refresher
a. Sing through the scale with signs
b. Echo short patterns with hand signs and voices
i. Mrd
ii. Drm
iii. Smd
iv. Dms
c. Every note can be named in solfege!
3. Elevator song
a. Review in chunks
b. Remind of solfege
c. Sing through the entire song – allow students to use the ladder if needed
4. Get Boom whackers out
a. Echo patterns
b. Scale
5. Closing – Goodbye song

ASSESSMENT:
Steady beat – with bw – try to show a steady beat whenever they are playing and speak in time
to help students to be successful.
Bw rule following – observe and revoke privileges if necessary.
Monitor solfege signs and motions in songs/activities (check to see how many/which students
are using the ladder for help). Encourage students to use the ladder if they are struggling.
