Chapter 1

Project Context

At the present time, most of the university uses use manual attendance
monitoring system. There are two types of manual attendance monitoring system Commented [FV1]: Can you cite sources that prove that there
are universities that use manual attendance monitoring system?

and these are roleroll-calling and the attendance sheet that must be filled by the
students with their personal information. Some of its problems are this systemit is
hardly time consuming, the manual attendance monitoring system is not accurate,
and this system can cause disturbance to both students and professors. Problems
such as that the lesson/s that should be taught for the schedule intended may not be
followed by the lack of time to be consumed for lectures. Time is important in
academic performance for each subject is limited to its only intended
timeschedule., Ccausing delay on lectures will affect both student and professor in
their performance for teaching and learning.

That This only implies that this system will develop the attendance
monitoring system considering the flaws of doing it manually. It will lessen the Commented [FV2]: Please rephrase to make it clearer.

time consumed by manually monitoring the attendance, thus lessens the burdens of
both student and professor. By implying applying the project we proposed, it will Commented [FV3]: Please rephrase too.

be more accurate for it will prove that the students is present in the class through
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system.
Objectives

 To avoid delaying the lessons that should be taught according to its

curriculum.
 To help the professor to monitors the attendance system orderly.
 To know the credibility of attendance among the class be improved. Commented [FV4]: ?

 To help the school premises to use RFID based tTechnology.

 To improve the current attendance system that is currently used.

Scope

The project is focused on lessening the time to be consumed for its attendance, for
maximizing the effectiveness of academic performance of the students and
professor. It covers on how it will improve other problems that will hinder both
the professor and the students that exists in the current attendance system and by
making it automated will cease problems that are currently facing faced it.

Limitation

The current project that we are trying to implement only shows the basic features
that must be used to acquire the attendance of a class. Implementing this
proposition will question the credibility on how the system will run for a long term
and its effectiveness in resolving the problems on current student monitoring
system that it’s currentlythe school is facing on. It may not be ready to be used
consistently for we intended it to implement it first on a small scale usage.

Review of Related Literature Commented [FV5]: Where are your resources, related studies,
published papers, books, and other references?

RFID based Attendance Monitoring

The existing monitoring system are being used requires students to manually
sign the attendance sheet everyday they attend the class. Having an automated
system that will capture the student’s attendance by simply flashing tapping their
student card through the RFID reader can really save all the mentioned problems.
Attendance is one of the key factor in improving the quality of teaching and
monitoring their performance in class. Improving the scalability scale to store more
records and the integrity of data security compare to the manual system.

Low Frequency RFID based Student Monitoring System and Short Messaging
Service (SMS)

Using Short Messaging Service feature will keep the track of students in
school premises making it more convenient for the school to keep safety for its
students. The developed software records the name, entry, and exit time of
students thus giving the parents the information regarding the status of its child
even though they are at home or at work. It can also monitor account balance and
schedules of current classes of the student through Short Messaging Service
(SMS). Future studies related to the topic may focus on High frequency RFID
instead of Low Frequency RFID.
RFID based Student Monitoring via Website and Android

This study has current issues like, parents are unable to monitor their
children, youth computer addiction, peer pressure and students will be more adept
on making excuses such as using the school activities as the reason without the
proof that there are involve in the said activity. The proposed solution to the
problem is a combination of Radio Frequency Identification system, Website and
Android application. The objectives of the study is to monitor the student’s time
when entering or leaving the school, providing parents with the schools
announcement, giving them an electronic document Parental Consent Form and the
system also have its dynamic options such as changing school hours and alerting if
a student is still inside the school premises late at night. The study uses school
website and android application as the communication tools for the parents.
Hardware components such as RFID antenna will be installed in the school gate
and RFID tags on the student’s ID. School computer server and android phones
will be used for the software component.

School of Information Technology Faculty Monitoring using RFID

Using RFID based attendance monitoring system on its faculty will improve
department usability. It will help the student assistant (SA) to locate easily the
faculty members if they are needed and can generate a summary report. This may
also lessen the tardiness of faculty member.
