Circular Memorandum 2016-1

August 26, 2016

RE: Social Media Ethics as Social Communicators

Brethren:

As part of our ongoing efforts to being well-formed social communicators both for
our respective parishes and for the diocese, kindly go over these few items which will
guide us in our use of the social media.

1 – The social media is created to provide an avenue of sharing experiences, seamless

communications and for information dissemination. Thus, by all means, this must be
used in purposes that promote Christian virtues.

2 – With all the convenience provided by social media, this must not replace personal
communications. Efficiency in the work of our ministry must not put to compromise
that actual meetings must still be employed thus paving ways to discovering more of
our brothers and sisters in the ministry, knowing their emotions and also the personal
bond that must be built among us. It has to be remembered that communications is
at its best when done in person.

3 – As much as we wanted for ourselves to express our feelings, it is not proper for
us social communicators of the Church to use the social media or whatever means of
communications as venue to release our angst, excitement and other extreme
emotions that might compromise our integrity as media personnel of the Church.

4 – We must not never engage or write posts that initiate anger or hate, or in any
case, any posts that is deemed improper as a Christian individual.

5 – Therefore, we must exercise due restraint in posting articles or shout outs that
compromises our image as social communicators of the Church. We must not post
about violence, intimacy and the like. Should we post about opinions on politics, we
must exercise objectivity and fairness in all our writings and making sure none of what
we wrote will be libelous or harm-inflicting.

Any concern about a member of the ministry violating any of these, please report to
the Coordinator for immediate action on the matter. Thank you and God bless.

Cum laetitia in Domino,

James Matthew Wong, ECE
