Historical Context: first poem written by Rizal during his
third academic year in Ateneo de Municipal. He wrote the
poem in 1874

mothher, Dona Teodora Alonso, released from prison that same
year. the poem was dedicated to his mother.

Historical Context: It was written by Rizal when he was only
eighteen years old.

Filipino Youth which he describes as the “fair hope of my

the eternal splendor"

Historical Context: It was the first published essay of Rizal
and he wrote it when he was twenty-one years old in Madrid. It
was published under the name “Laong Laan” on August 20,
1882 in Diaryong Tagalog, a Philippine newspaper then in La
Solidaridad, Madrid on the October 31 1890.
