LESSON PLAN

for TEACHING OBSERVATION

Subject: Oral Communication


Date: June 24, 2019

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner understands the nature and elements of oral communication in
context.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner designs and performs effective controlled and
uncontrolled oral communication activities based on context.

I OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the lesson the Grade 11 students are expected to:
a. ascertain the verbal and nonverbal cues that each speaker uses to achieve his/her
purpose EN11/12OC-Ibe-11,
b. perform effective nonverbal activities, and
c. value nonverbal cues as one of the tool in the communication process.

II SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Nonverbal Communication
References: SPEAC Speak and Listen in Context an Oral Communication Textbook for
Senior High School by Ana Marie O. Fernandez pages
Materials: Laptop, PPT, Marker. Cartolina
Teaching Strategies: Lecture Discussion, Collaborative Learning, Charade, Wordless
instruction.

MOTIVATION
 The teacher will show pictures on the screen, then the students will be guided by the
question:

1. Do you have an idea about these following signs and gestures?


2. Based from the following signs and gestures presented, what is our lesson for
today?

LESSON PROPER

ACTIVITY
 Teacher groups the students into 2 groups.
 Each group will be given 6 word puzzle to arrange.
 They will only be given an approximate time of 3 minutes to finish posting the words
formed on the board.

ANALYSIS
 The teacher will have an interactive discussion with the students about the different
components of nonverbal communication based from the words formed on the board.

The Components of Nonverbal Communication

1. Kinesics 7. Vocalics
2. Proxemics 8. Sound Symbols
3. Haptics 9. Silience
4. Oculesics 10. Posture
5. Chronemics 11. Adornment
6. Olfatics 12. Locomotion
ABSTRACTION
 Still with the same group, the students will do the an activity called “Take a look and
Tell me”.
 The teacher will post some pictures on the screen, then each group have to take a look
and tell what component of nonverbal communication has been presented in the
pictures.

APPLICATION:
Something to DO!
Task 1 Charade
1. A player from each group draws a word slip from a bowl, after that, she/he is given
a short time to review the slip then she will begin to act out the meaning of the
word. (1 minute)
2. The group mates will guess the exact word by saying it correctly.
3. If the guess is right, the actor will signal ok.
4. The group will organize the words to form a sentence.

Task 2 Wordless Instructions


1. The player will be the one to read the written instructions, she / he given few
seconds to compose.
2. She/ he will instruct the students using body language, facial expression and
gesture.
3. Students will follow and do what the player instructs.
4. A point goes to the group who were able to guess the words and form into a
sentence in the least time.

2. How does it help you in dealing with other people?

V ASSIGNMENT:
Directions: Research on the different barriers of communication and list down at least 3
sample situations where there is communication breakdown.
