INTRODUCTION: Harmonic means are used in averaging rates such as: travel speed, data transmission,
machine productivity, buying stocks, and the likes. Generally, the harmonic mean helps us calculate
average rates when several items are working together. In this project, you are going to experience
working with harmonic mean on your own desktop or personal computers.
As a Grade 10 student, you are tasked to suggest a music video from YouTube to be presented during the
Tribute to Parents ceremonies. You downloaded a specific video with the highest quality possible and
noticed how fast it was. You got curious and tried to download the same video four more times if the
downloading rate will change.
GOAL: To get the average rate of a music video downloaded five times (express speed in mbps.)
ROLE: downloader.
AUDIENCE: Internet service provider.
SITUATION: Downloading a music video―with the highest quality that is available―for five times.

INSTRUCTIONS:
(1) There are 6 pages (minimum) for this project. The first page is a typewritten front page.
(2) Pages 2 and 3 are accomplished in handwritten manner (screenshots not needed here)
(3) Pages 4 and 5 are the final copies, hence responses are typewritten (with screenshots)
(4) For table 1.1., in the time finished column, a timer must be used to accomplish.
(5) All questions must be answered with complete solution with a corresponding correct conclusion
(if needed)
Questions:
1-5. Show all computations for the RATE in mbps rounded off to two decimal places.
6-12. Determine the average rate of your download. Then, interview a classmate. Ask him his average
download rate. Compare it to yours. Which rate is faster? Conclude.

experiential or you may cite sources online.

1-5. Show all computations for the RATE in mbps rounded off to two decimal places.
6-12. Determine the average rate of your download. Then, interview a classmate. Ask him his average
download rate. Compare it to yours. Which rate is faster? Conclude.
13-16. Based on your conclusion, aside from the internet speed, cite two (2) other factors why your
rate was slower/ faster than your friend’s.
Aside from the internet speed, my average speed is faster than my friend’s because of other factors
such as the time when I downloaded my file, the size of the file, and the sites that are opened during
the downloading of the file. I downloaded my file at 12 midnight while Julie downloaded hers at 11 in
the morning which makes her downloading speed slower for there are others who are using their
internet at that time. Second, my file is smaller than Julie’s since hers is 17.7 mb while mine is only
15.2 mb. And one other factor that affected both of our downloading time are the sites that are
running while downloading our files. When I downloaded my file, I only opened my Messenger and on
the other hand, Julie opened YouTube, Twitter, Messenger, and Facebook while she was downloading
her file. Therefore, the time for downloading my music video is faster than Julie’s due to the time
when I downloaded my file, the size of the file, and the sites that are running during the downloading
time.
17-20. Based on the factors you listed, what do you think would improve download speed? This may
be experiential or you may cite sources online.
According to Wendy Mai (2018), the following tips can increase the downloading speed: check the
download speed, close any apps you are not using, stay closer to the router if you are using a wireless
network, limit how much bandwidth is used for downloading updates in the background, reset your
DNS server, and update your network adapter. Also, from my experiences, to improve the
downloading speed of a file, you can download the file at midnight for there are only few who are
also using the internet. Close any sites or programs you are using when downloading the file for it
makes the downloading time slower. And refrain from downloading a bigger size of file for it
consumes a lot more time in downloading it. All of these may help in improving one’s downloading
speed but still, the internet speed is the most factor that affects your downloading speed.
