Paper No. 4

A. What are the identified strength and weaknesses of the said program/practice/policy?

1. Strength of the Gulayan sa Paaralan

 The Gulayan sa Paaralan program encourages students, teachers, and parents to

better appreciate agriculture.

 School gardens as “ready food baskets” or sources of vegetables to sustain

feeding. Teachers will not be buying vegetables for feeding programs since they

can get it fresh from the gardens

 Reduce malnutrition among our school children. Simple school garden can make

significant contributions to children’s nutrition and to some extent food and

nutrition security at the community and national levels

 Entice the younger generation to go into agriculture and teaches and inspires

children to adopt gardening in their own backyards. Hence, children can also earn

from selling it and have extra allowance in case their parents cannot give them. It

can also be a big help to them to save on their everyday expenses since it can be a

source of vegetables and other food.

 Once our elementary children get used to farming and we teach them how to do it

properly, they will apply it on their own residence and revive their drive to have

backyard gardens for their family

 It brings pupils together and to work as a group along with teachers. Interaction

while doing farm work bring pupils closer together and form bonds of

camaraderie

2. Weaknesses of the Gulayan sa Paaralan

 The negative attitude of both students and teachers toward gardening. Not

everyone’s willing to spend time gardening. Some prefer playing computer games.

While other teachers are not passionate enough for them to cultivate the garden,” So ,
no matter how big or small the garden is, if the teachers is not dedicated enough,

there would be no school vegetable garden.

 Some students do not value the plants in the garden. They even play around it that

affects the destruction to its vegetables.

 No available funds

 Pests, climate change, and flood (natural calamities) could destroy the garden.

 Soil

 Water Shortage

 With the lack of support, teachers stands firm for the project and even spends for

his/her money to pay for the services rendered by the one he/she hired to maintain

the garden.

B. Utilizing a definite theoretical basis, how many of these strength be reinforce and

weaknesses to be remedied?

I believe that the entire things listed above can be reinforced and remedied thru

Experiential Learning Theory. As the name suggests, experiential learning involves learning

from experience. Experiential learning can be good for helping each in the school to explore their

own strengths when learning new things. Experiencing and understanding the aims/benefits that

we can get from the program, Gulayan sa Paaralan in our school could motivate the learners,

teachers to pursue this activity. In the beginning the teachers may have difficulties but as the

program goes on the job is becoming easy because we are now learning through our own

experience. With our experiences we can see what to do next time in case the method that you

use now did not work, you will have a basis to improve and disregard techniques which are

unhelpful. Experiential learning requires self-initiative, an "intention to learn" and an "active

phase of learning".
Paper No. 5

Proposed an implementable modification of the policy/practice/ program that you

analyzed in this course or a replacement for it.

 Before the implementation of the program teachers, stakeholders, should know

their rights and responsibilities. They should be trained on the latest agricultural

techniques, so that they may also end certain practices that are harmful to the

environment.

 Lessen the workload of agriculture teachers. There are times when they cannot

focus on the school gardens because of their heavy teaching load. Teachers of any

kind deserve more support: compensations and benefits, training, and of course,

respect.

 give agriculture education more financial support. Seeds, tools, research – all

these cost money. People already lack the motivation to study agriculture, they

will be further discouraged if schools are underequipped.

 Schools should coordinate with the LGU and the Barangay Officials.

 School should provide opportunities for the members of the community and other

private individuals to be aware of the Gulayan sa paaralan- its importance to the

learners as well as in the community. Distributing flyers with the purpose of the

Gulayan sa Paaralan and its positive effect is a way to invited stakeholders to

participate in the program.

CONCLUSION

Gulayan sa Paaralan Program is a wonderful program that should not be

encouraged not only in school but also in homes and communities.
