Essay technology

Introduction

 Impact of technology in education. Traditional methods and innovative

 Does it modify traditional educational system?
 Use in classroom -> effective? For and against.

It cannot be denied that technology has come here to stay in every aspect of our lives, including
education. Projectors are now nearly as common as whiteboards. Audiovisual content is not only
a movie played in the library, as it used to be when technology started making its path into
schools; but also videos to present topics or an interesting way of starting a debate. Moreover,
technology has undoubtedly changed the way in which we see the world and the way in which
students learn. These unavoidable changes oblige schools to get involved with technologies and
adapt its traditional ways to it.

Schools have been having the same traditional methods since its creation. However, when
technology started to take over, schools had to transform this traditional system into a more
modern one: one that is able to cope with modern students. Projectors, speakers, internet
connection and computers had to be acquired in order to modify traditional classrooms. Even
though using technology in the classroom is of high importance, there are some schools that are
not able to include it either because of economic problems or because teachers had not been
prepared to teach to their students in this way. For a number of reasons, technology has not been
able to reach every school.

Some people claim that the traditional methods are the right ones because schools have worked
in that way for decades and it is has proven to teach effectively to millions of students. Also,
students are exposed to technology in every aspect of their lives and this has affected children’s
development. It is natural to think that students need some time off technology and schools may
be the place for it. On the other hand, some other people claim that the reason that technology
should be included is because it is also included in every other aspect of their lives. Times have
changed and a world without technology is unthinkable, and a school without it may be too.

Using technology as a tool for both students and teachers is not only a motivation for everyone
but it makes things easier as well. Homework can be presented and delivered using information
and communication technologies. Students may watch videos or movies to talk about them or
make a presentation about. Possibilities are infinite and it only takes a little bit of creativity.

To conclude, technology is everywhere and schools cannot escape from it. Students deserve to
learn in a way that is known for them and makes them feel comfortable. However, this does not
mean that traditional methods need to be cast aside. Traditional methods have a lot of advantages
that may help students acquire different contents. A balance is needed, especially in times of
change like this one.
