The following appeared as part of the Dean’s newsletter:

"The University of Wabash is considering a community service requirement for all

undergraduate and graduate students. We believe that the objective of any university
is to produce well-rounded and charitable members of society. The proposed
graduation requirement would be to complete at least 8 hours of unpaid community
service per month for a total of 9 months. The Dean’s office will maintain a list of
approved local charities on its website with contact information. This is a fantastic
opportunity for students to give back to the community and gain real-world working
experience. Most importantly, local charities in need will receive the help that they
need to continue their efforts."

This argument is flawed with a numerous reasons, the argument cogent enough for the facts that the
undergraduate and graduate students must take more responsibities in serving to the society which
is a completly wrong statement, it would be like considering a 10 year old boy running for the
countries presidential elections and serving as the president of the country.

Firstly, the undergraduate and graduate students main goal or criteria must be to attend class,
prepare for exams and do their assignments and home work.Making undergraduate and graduate
students serve for the community would be a complete waste of time as they should dedicate more
time in gaining knowledge and learning new theories which could inturn help them in applying and
developing innovative products and technologies in the future for the building a better hood of
mankind and this in-turn could help in solving various challenges and problems in the society.

Secondly the undergraduate and graduate students are in a constant need for money as they may be
facing a lot of expenses in their day to day life and working for 8 hours a month without being paid
could lead to onerous on their financial condition, it is not fair for the Dean or for the charities to
decide for an unpaid community service as they must be paid atleast a minumum wage for the work
they perfom as this could help in cutting down their expenses .

Finally it is said that Dean’s office will maintain a list of approved local charities on its website with
contact information is could be a hoax as there are many unapproved local charities in the society
that would require workman ship of any sought, just for fulling their mendacious activies.
Furthermore, we must track down the list of the genuine organisations and compare them with the
list in the website and make a complete analysis of the situation which is not available in the
argument. Based on these points I would conclude that ihe the argument is flawed.
