What principle of petroleum geology?

Our team focused study of petroleum geology logically around the three main processes,
which is petroleum generation, migration and accumulation. Sometime, the emphasis is placed in
the reverse order. In general petroleum geology commonly quantify in the larger area such as
sedimentary basin rather than sedimentary sequence. The three main proceesses will be
summarized below.
 Generation of Petroleum
Generation of petroleum commonly have some requirements that must be adequate which is
organic content, temperature and time. The study of it based on hypotheses interpretation of
geochemical observation.
 Migration of Petroleum
Migration into accumulation is focused on study of permeability path. This path also required
correct timing and suitable pathway that could be longway or shortway. Many hypotheses said that
simple migration is petroleum source rock into carrier bed and seal into accumulation, but in the
other hand multiple-stage of migration could be sense. Much uncertainty of migratin pathway is
caused by uncertainty about source rock posisition like example. Migration is divided into two
stage : Primary migration and secondary migration based on how many carrier bed oil has been
migrated. There are some factor that inhibition oil to migrate is pressure that replace water from
pore space caused on capillary pressure is excess than buoyancy pressure. Study of capillary
pressure could be determine hydrocarbon coulum and quality reservoir in advance.
 Accumulation of Petroleum
Accumulation of petroleum include study of permeability and porosity with seal. Accumulation in
a trap accomplished when structural geometry or startigraphy physical properties of rock prevent
further migration. Main form of trap well known as structural trap (Anticline, fault) and
stratigraphic trap. The point of accumulation is based on quality reservoir which include
geometrical closure, reservoir rock that has permeability (which implies porosity) and fine-grained
relatively impermeable cap rock above it.
