My third time going to Restaurant International was another great experience.

Last week,
fellow students and I attended Restaurant International with something else to focus on. Our
focus was on how the table was set up. Prior to going to the restaurant, I did some researching
online to familiarize myself with different table settings. The basic table setting was the one I'm
most familiar with, as that is the setting I use at home when inviting guests over for dinner.
Upon doing a simple google search about “dinner table settings”, I was surprised to find out
there were many different settings that could be used. Most of the table settings I saw online
were too complicated for me to set up or ever witness. Some table settings seemed very
specific, as in they were set up to host the elites. Royal families, government officials,
celebrities, etc. Some individual’s like to show off their lavish lifestyles by setting up their tables
in specific ways. My experience last week at Restaurant International was nothing of the sort. It
was simple, yet elegant. I was expecting a basic table setting, but that wasn’t what I witnessed.
The setting I saw at Restaurant International, according to my knowledge, was the formal table
setting. There were multiple utensils of the same kind, napkins were neatly placed on the table
(they looked like pyramids!), with numerous cups (filled with water). There was just enough
space in front of each one of us for a Menu to be placed. The space was later used for the
plate(s) we ordered. The table was set up in a way that took advantage of the free space. I was
impressed to see that there wasn’t a lot of empty space on the table. I was even more
impressed by the fact that the table wasn’t crowded, either. The table setting was completely
different from the settings used by many restaurants I have visited around the world. Some
settings I've seen were less than basic. Numerous restaurants give you just enough utensils and
plates for your meals, with no extras. I remember going to a restaurant that handed me a single
tissue to be used after finishing my meal! I never went back, of course. In the same way, some
restaurants bombard your table with unnecessary plates and utensils. In my opinion, the table
setting at Restaurant International was just perfect. They did not exceed the limits and at the
same time, they weren’t stingy, either. If Restaurant International had more options to choose
from the menu, I would definitely make it my go-to place whenever I wanted to invite friends
for lunch or dinner outside my home.
