III. Introduction

Management Information System (MIS) is all about collection of a data

from many different sources and then processes and organizes that data to help
business make decisions. Our topic is all about the functional view of MIS, these
includes the intranet and the extranet and how do they function and being
correlated to each other and how do it undergo in a series of process before getting
the output.
IV. Narrative Proper/ Discussion

September 21, 2019. The day that our report has been held at BPSU main
campus, City of Balanga in Mr. Ronaldo Trajano's Room at the time of 1:15 p.m in
the afternoon. As a beginning the reporters start their report by greeting (Good
Afternoon) then started to introduce themselves, starting with their leader named as
Mr. Michael Bern Salenga, then with his Group mates namely as Ms. Jane
Sanchez, Mr. Brix Maxwell Prieto, Mr. Robbel Feliciano, Mr. Kidd Dy-liacco, Mr.
Aldren john Cruz. Then the reporters have started to tackle their respective topic
that is entitled as "MIS- Functional View".

Extranet

Intranet
An intranet is a private network contained within enterprise that is used to surely
share company information and computing resources among employees. An intranet can also be
used to facilitate working in groups and teleconferences.
Some Functions of Intranet
Intranets increase communication within an organization by allowing employees
to easily access important information, links, applications and form as well as databases that can
provide company records. Security can also be increased within the intranet by establishing a
database that maintains all of the usernames of people who are allowed acess to the network.

Uses of The Intranet

 Streaming everyday activities by making repeated tasks more feasible.
 centralizing and managing important information and company data in single database.
 making collaboration easier since information can be shared across the entire network.
 Providing personalized content to employees based on their role within the company
 Improving internal communication by making employee directories, company news and
organization charts readily available.
 Providing fast and easy access to information about company policies, benefits and
updates.

Typically, an Intranet includes connections through one or more gateway computers to the
outside internet. The internet is the on which you can access anything and that is what an
individual uses at home or on his inter connected network in a company or an organization.

Extranet

An extranet is a private network that uses internet technology and the public
telecommunication system to securely share part of a business's information or
operations with suppliers, vendor, partners, customers or other businesses. An
extranet can be viewed as part of a company intranet that is extended to users
outside the company. it has also been described as a "state of mind" in which the
internet is perceived is a way to do business with other companies as well as to sell
products to customers. An extranet requires security and privacy. These can
include firewall server management, the issuance and use of digital certificates or
similar means of user authentication, encryption of messages, and the use of virtual
private networks (VPN's) that tunnel through the public network.
Uses of Extranet:

 Exchange large volumes of data using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

Share product catalogues exclusively with wholesalers or those "in the
trade".
 Collaborate with other companies on joint development efforts.
 Jointly develop and use training programs with other companies
 Provide or access services provided by one company to a group of other
companies, such as an online banking application managed by one company
on behalf affiliated banks
 Share news of common interest exclusively with partner companies.

Difference Between Intranet and Extranet:

The major difference from an extranet, however, is that an intranet is used

internally. While an extranet allows businesses to communicate with clients and
vendors, an intranet allows employees and colleagues to work together in a virtual
space -- no outside parties are involved.

The benefits of Implementing an intranet:

 Improved internal communication.

 Fluid conversation spurs creativity and productivity
 Instant messenger, notifications, and spaces are specific intranet features that
streamline communication across your entire company.
 Team members can comment in discussion forums, digital workspaces, and
files. So long are the days of confusion for team players and leaders.
Centralized information that connects members.
 The intranet become as to be managed well, it calls upon the management to
plan for it and control it, so that the information becomes a vital resource for
the system.

Example of Usage of Intranet and Extranet:

Let's say you're in a meeting and your CEO has a question that a team
member who is not present has the answer to... or maybe you need a document but
don't have time to stop at your colleague's desk before a conference call. With
instant messenger, you can ask your colleague(s) instantly and directly without an
email going unnoticed. You can even drag-and-drop files and create group threads.
Transaction Processing System (TPS)

A Transaction Processing System is a set of information which processes the

data transaction in database system that monitors transaction programs. The system
is useful when something is sold over the internet. It allows for a time delay
between when an item is being sold to when it is actually sold.

Impacts of MIS:

 Management of marketing, finance. and production and personnel becomes

more efficient, the tracking and monitoring becomes easy Helps in
understanding of business itself, MIS begins with definition of data and its
attributes - uses data dictionary and brings common understanding of terms
and terminology in organization
 MIS calls for systemization of business operations - leads to streamlining of
operations, brings discipline in its operations everyone is required to follow.
 Since the goal of MIS are driven from organization goals, it helps indirectly
pulling everyone in organization towards corporate goals by providing
relevant information to the people in organization.
 MIS helps to monitor results and performances.
 MIS provides alerts, in some cases daily, to managers at each level of the
organization, on all deviations between results and pre-established objectives
and budgets.
 IT enabled MIS is partly responsible for the PARADIGM shift (A change, a
new model) from support to contributing to an organizations profitability.

MIS Strategy and Plan

The management information system needs good planning. This system

should deal with the management information not with data processing alone. It
should provide support for the management planning, decision-making and action.
It should provide support to the changing needs of business management.

Major challenges in MIS Implementation

 Quantity, content and context of information - how much information and

exactly what should it describe.
 Nature of analysis and presentation - comprehensibility of information.
 Availability of information - frequency, contemporariness, one-time info or
repetitive in nature and so on.

Advantages of MIS implementation

 Accuracy of information.
 Reliability of information.
 Security and Authentication of the system.

Internal Management System Development
"The right internal management system will help in directing the activities of
an organization and then coordinate the needs of clients along with tracking to
ensure regulatory requirements are met,"
-Jason Berkowitz-.
In today's fast faced business world, there is a significant need of internal
systems that have a real impact on project management. It is necessary for these
systems to be capable of documenting all major processes and procedures and for
tracking of objectives and policies to ensure the best outcomes are being achieved.

Outsourced Systems Development

Outsourcing is contracting out or using external resources to finish a task,
project, process, or job. People tend to think of outsourcing as a way to reduce
fundamental costs, but there are more to outsourcing than just costs, such as
professional expertise, time-and-cost efficiency, and competitive delivery.
