• Ahmedabad - is the economic capital of the state of

Gujarat and is one of the largest Urban
agglomerations in the state, whereas
• Rajkot - is one of the fastest growing cities in the
state which also act as a Gateway to the Saurashtra
Region, further connecting it to other major urban
centres like Junagadh, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka,
Somnath, etc.
• Semi High Speed Rail (HSR) is proposed between
Ahmedabad and Rajkot to provide seamless
connectivity between the two cities reducing the
travel time to 2-3 hours.
• In addition, the Ahmedabad – Rajkot semi HSR shall
act as a feeder to Ahmedabad – Mumbai High Speed

Key highlights for Ahmedabad- Rajkot Semi HSR System

An elevated corridor on the existing National Highway (NH-47) is proposed between

Ahmedabad and Rajkot, since for achieving the train speed above 160 km/hr, a
dedicated right of way is preferable. Further, the requirement of acquisition is less
as well.

As per initial bock cost, the estimated project cost of having Semi High-Speed Rail
system between Ahmedabad and Rajkot is approximately INR 11,300 crores
(excluding acquisition cost, land cost, rolling stock cost, station cost and any other
miscellaneous cost)

Based on industry benchmarks and broad investment estimates, the proposed

investments can have potential to create ~2,300 direct jobs and ~17,300 in-direct
jobs in next 30 years.
