2. The response to your RTI application is as follows:

Government of lndia has undertaken a series of initiatives, both at bilateral and multilateral
levels, in pursuance of permanent membership for lndia in an expanded and reformed UN
Security Council. We work alongside reform oriented countries including through groupings
like the G-4 (lndia, Japan, Brazil and Germany) and L.69 (made up of cross regional
developing countries). lndia is also actively engaged in the ongoing lntergovernmental
Negotiations on UNSC reform at the United Nations and has been working towards 'text
based negotiations'.

A large number of countries have supported lndia's candidature for permanent membership in
an expanded UN Security Council. This has been expressed in various forms and fora
including in bilateral discussions. lndia's performance as a non-permanent member of the UN
Security Council during 2OLL-I2 has also significantly strengthened lndia's claim to
permanent membership.
