PTE Tips and Tricks

Speaking:

Read Aloud:

Read the sentence using proper annotations and pauses. Don’t try to
correct yourself if you pronounced the word wrong or missed the word.
Just speak fluently.

Repeat sentence:

Try to follow the accent and the way of the speaker. Don’t worry if you
miss any word or try to correct yourself. Just speak fluently and try to catch
the accent of the speaker.

Describe Image template:

Tips:

 Fluency is the key; don’t worry much about the content.

 Make a template; speak about 8o words out of which 50 words
must be from your template.
 You get 25 seconds for preparation. In that 25 secs note down
 Topic of the graph, X & Y Axis labels, Max & Min Value.
 You must always conclude in the end.

Bar Graphs:

Line1: The given bar chart represents the (Topic) between (start year) to
(end year).

Line2: From an overall perspective, it can be clearly seen that (any highest
point) holds the highest (total) of (y-axis heading) at (Y-axis value).

Line3: Followed closely by (2nd highest point) which holds the second
highest (total) of (y-axis heading) at (Y-axis value).

Line4: In contrast, (Lower point) holds the lowest (total) of (y-axis heading)
at (Y-axis value).

Line5: From the given data, it can be easily concluded that there is a
huge difference between (highest points) and (lowest point) and it can
be anticipated that the similar trend will continue to follow in future as
well.
Line graphs (single line):

Line1: The given line graph represents the (Topic) between (X-axis).

Line2: From an overall perspective, it can be clearly seen that (topic)

started with (Y axis value) in (X-axis)

Line3: Whereas between (any point) & (any point) decreased/increased

to (X-axis).

Line4: On the other hand, from (any point) to (any point) (topic)
experienced the highest increase to (highest value).

Line5: From the given data, it can be easily concluded that (topic)
significantly increased/decreased/remained stable throughout the period
and it can be anticipated that the similar trend will continue to follow in
future as well.

Line Graphs (multiple lines):

Line1: The given line graph represents the (Topic) between (X-axis).

Line2: From an overall perspective, it can be clearly seen that (any Line)
slightly increased/decreased/remained constant over the period.

Line3: Whereas (any line) experienced the highest increase in (heading)

from (start year) to (end year).

Line4: In contrast, (line 2) experienced the highest/lowest

increase/decrease in (heading) from (star year) to (end year).

Line5: From the given data, it can be easily concluded that (all the lines
name) have similar/ different trajectories when (topic) is concerned and it
can be anticipated that the similar trend will continue to follow in future as
well.
Pie charts (single):

Line1: The given pie chart represents the (Topic) for various (types). The
various (types) are……………

Line2: From an overall perspective, it can be clearly seen that (any highest
point) accounts for the largest proportion at (value %).

Line3: Followed closely by (2nd highest point) at (value %).

Line4: In contrast, (Lower point) holds the smallest proportion at (value %).

Line5: From the given data, it can be easily concluded that (highest
proportion) has outnumbered the others and it can be anticipated that
the similar trend will continue to follow in future as well.

Pie charts (multiple):

Line1: The given pie chart represents the (Topic) for (pie1) & (pie 2).

Line2: From an overall perspective, it can be clearly seen that (any highest
point in pie 1) accounts for the largest proportion at (value %).

Line3: Whereas, (highest value in pie 2) accounts for the largest proportion
in (pie 2) at (value %).

Line4: In contrast, (Lower point) holds the smallest proportion (in both the
pies) at (pie 1value %) and (pie 2 value %) respectively.

Line5: From the given data, it can be easily concluded that (highest
proportion) has outnumbered the others and it can be anticipated that
the similar trend will continue to follow in future as well.

***For Maps, pictures, process charts, venn diagrams, flow charts and
others follow the same template.
Retell Lecture:

Tips:

 Make notes while listening and identify the general topic of the
lecture.
 Don’t write just the keywords instead write 3-4 phrases.
Phrases = continuous 3-4 words together.
 Write at least 3 phrases.
 You must always conclude in the end.

Template:

Line1: In the given lecture, the speaker was mainly talking about
(impact/effects/results/process/etc) of (Topic).

Line2: He/She explained the correlation between different aspects of

(topic) in general.

(***Look at your notes while speaking line2)

Line3: First and foremost, he/she mentioned (phrase 1)

Line4: He/She then discussed (phrase 2).

Line5: In addition, he/she highlighted (phrase 3).

Line6: In conclusion, we can say that the speaker is an expert in this area
and has provided important information about (topic).

Writing:

Summarize written text:

This task is more important than the essay as it contributes larger share for
your writing task. (Followed E2 language ideas)

Essay Writing:

Don’t follow any template as it will restrict your ideas while writing a good
essay.

Format:

 Introduction:
Sentence 1 - Rewrite general statement
Sentence 2 – Briefly mention side 1 & side 2 of the topic
Sentence 3 – Give your overall opinion (whether you choose side 1
or side 2).
 Paragraph 1:
Sentence 1 – Restate side 1 (or) 2
Sentence 2 – Give reasons
Sentence 3 – Give example
Sentence 4 – Conclude
 Paragraph 2:
Sentence 1 – Restate side 1 (or) 2
Sentence 2 – Give reasons
Sentence 3 – Give example
Sentence 4 - Conclude
 Conclusion:
Rewrite General statement
Give your overall opinion (side 1 or 2)

Reading:

Follow E2 language method for all tasks and practice fill in the blanks very
well.

Listening:
