INTRODUCTION

• Talent management is a critical function in identifying and


retaining key employees.
• Increased importance with the growing competitiveness in the
environment.
• Long term sustenance of organization needs a regular sequence of
able and experienced leaders.
• Necessity to build a “leadership pipeline” – ensures carrying
forward the business objectives.
• Shortage of skilled and talented employees, hence the need to
retain internal talent.
Prediction challenge regarding high potentials

• Managers and executives need three key skills in order to make 
successful predictions : 

– The ability to see into the future and anticipate the types of future leaders (or 
experiences, skills, and abilities) that will be needed for future organizational 
success    
– The ability to accurately assess current employees in the organization    
– The ability to gauge an individual ’s  potential for future growth and 
development
