The Day I was Most Proud of Myself

On November 7th, 1998, my dad purchased a 1994 Mustang gt 5.0L v8 for $12,000 and

has kept it to this day. He has added many performance parts and has kept it in the

garage(setting) ever since he got kids. My dad and I recently changed and added

some more things to it, but 1 day I had to do it by myself. (Hook/Surprise lead)

We needed to change the alternator and ignition coil because the car has been

misfiring. We didn’t know why the car was misfiring, but we thought it was because we

were going 85mph in a 25mph zone the week before(hyperbole) and may have

messed up the computer in the car or over worked the engine. My dad was out of town

that week. I really wanted to put the car together, so I did. I had trouble pushing the

car back because I needed space to work on it.(ID) I wasn’t able to, so I had to work

with what I had. The first thing I did was take out the old ignition coil and swap it with the

new one/Pretty basic and extremely easy. It’s like putting on a new phone case

(simile) but then there was the hard part;the alternator.

To attach the alternator, the intake system has to be disconnected. The intake

system brings air into the manifold/the engine.(imagery) It’s just a long rubber tube

with other tubes attached to it. Once it was off, I was having trouble figuring out how to

put it on. After a while, I put in the bolts and the custom spacer my dad had made so the
alternator doesn’t touch the valve covers. I got the alternator on, and I realized the

actual hard part was putting the belt on the alternator.(I,ccI)The way I had to do it is

that I need to take a wrench, and put it into a little slot that when you push up it loosens

the belt. Potentially, I could crush my fingers because I have to pull the wrench

with one hand and slip on the belt with the other. I have seen my dad do it a

couple times, so I had an idea on what to do. Realizing myself that if I mess up

the result could be devastating, and realizing I was by myself.(suspense)I

processed to lift up the wrench, and felt the weight being lifted. I got a little scared.(I) I

tried to move the belt quickly over the pulley but failed because I didn’t pull the wrench

up far enough. I tried again still scared, and carefully pushing the belt over the pulley. I

saw it go in perfectly;I knew I was all done.(I;I)

After I got the belt on the alternator, I attached the battery. (D,I)I can start the

car now to see if everything went well. I started the car, and the engine

roared.(Personification)Listening to the engine over the course of a minute, and

watching an older video of the engines sound; I knew for a fact that changing those

parts made a difference in the number of misfires.
