TRANSVERSE FRAMING SYSTEM

Transverse framing system is a construction system where force that work on shell plate will be
distribute to ship longitudinal beam through ship transverse beam. The deck construction weight
channeled through transverse beam from beam to ship hull and longitudinal bulkhead. The weight on
hull construction channeled to deck and ship bottom construction through frames. Transverse framing
system also strengthened by longitudinal block that help maintain stability form of curve or arch within
main transverse block and help distributing forces that centered to some close transverse block. This
system also need longitudinal structure such as center girder, side girder, deck girder, and stringer.
There are some part of transverse framing such as floor, frames, deck beam, and plating. The purpose
why we need longitudinal constructions is to make the arc of the main frame stable and to make center
of force. Load from ship hull is distribute to deck and by transverse frame. On the other hand, load from
deck construction is distribute by deck beam structure to longitudinal bulkheads. The advantage of using
transverse framing system are it is a simple construction, easy to construct, highly efficient to small sized
ship. Some disadvantage of using transverse framing system it is not suitable to big or long ship because
it does not give great amount of longitudinal strength and shell plate stability is lower. Transverse
framing system usually used in ship with L (length) less than 300 ft (average length of wave at sea).
There are some characteristic of transverse framing system such as, distance between longitudinals are
bigger but have enough dimension and height and distance between frames are more tight and
continue

LONGITUDINAL FRAMING SYSTEM

Longitudinal framing system is the construction to solve the longitudinal bending stress problem
because of sagging and hogging. On the ocean, the length of wave 300ft or 90m. if the length of ship is
more than 300ft or 90m so usually we have longitudinal construction more than transverse
construction. In longitudinal framing system forces that given to or taken by longitudinal structure
channeled to transverse bulkhead through longitudinal beam. Transverse beam is still needed in
longitudinal framing system but the main function is not to support longitudinal beam. The advantages
of longitudinal framing system are increase value modulus of transverse beam and makes the
construction more rigid. The disadvantages of longitudinal framing system is hard to construct. There
are component of longitudinal framing system such as keel, longitudinals, stringer, and deck girder.

COMBINE FRAMING SYSTEM

Combine framing system is usually used that has L between 90 to 120 m. The transversal
construction is used on hull of the ship and longitudinal construction is used on bottom and deck of the
ship. There are component of mixed framing system such as center girder, side girder, bottom
longitudinal, innerbottom longitudinal, frame, and web frame.
