Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

This chapter provides the purpose for making the project, the problem that the project

advocates want to solve, the objectives of the project, the project scope and limitations, and the

definition of terms in which are the key terms in the project is clearly defined.

Background of the Study

Fundamentally, the purpose of development of any lift machine is to lift and transport a

material, one place to another. This universal lift machine is hydraulically operated to be able to

withstand given loads applied. The modern in lift machine was developed in the 1920s. The lift

machine has since become an essential equipment in manufacturing and warehousing operation.

In this project, the design of this lift machine should be creative, hardwearing, user friendly and

use the minimum cost on material costing.

Statement of the Problem

With the limitations encountered in the use of ropes, ladders and scaffold in getting to

transport and elevate the height, in certain amount of load to carry, for comfortability, less time

consumption and less energy expended. The idea of a hydraulically powered Universal lifter, in

which will overcome the above stated limitations is used.

Significance of the Study

The proposed study aims to help a lot of people who are in the different categories of

industry, given in terms of navigating, transport of materials and working equipment, safety and

with ease to a required working height that is not easily accessible. It may be used without a
necessary external assistance or any assistance from a second party due to the concept of the

design. This project will be an important engineering tool or device used in construction,

maintenance jobs, in workshops and factories.

Moreover, this study will greatly help the future researchers who decide to venture in the

same kind of field, like developing mechanical aids for lifting machines. The study may guide

them on what to do and not to do in the development of their future study. Overall, the study will

be both beneficial to the industry and also to the students that will enhance the same study in the

future.
