Research Assessment #4

Date - October 10, 2019

Study - Interventional Cardiology

Citation - In person interview with Ms. Wright

Analysis - On October 10, I conducted a research interview with Ms. Wright a nurse at

Presybetarian hospital in dallas in their interventional cardiology unit. From this interview than

spanned about an hour I learned much more than I believe I could from just a single person. My

expectations for this interview was a rough ten minutes of trying to sell yourself to become attain

a mentorship however, this was far different that what I thought it would be. During this hour I

talked to Ms. Wright and another nurse Ms. Jennifer and discussed current procedures such as

mitraclip and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and even walked away with

examples and brochures on how each procedure functioned. They went into great detail as how

an interventional cardiologist actually performs these procedures with each step and type of

catheter in use, from the guide wire to the actual animal valve. This interview also opened me to

alternate forms of education that can lower my debt rather than just trucking on through college

and medical school. One of the routes one of the nurses took was getting her associates degree at

a community and while working in a clinic went to school to obtain her bachelors and nursing

degree, which allowed her to reduce stress of financials and the weight of debt that follows most

through life. This alternaterative is now on the back side of my mind because it could save me

money and stress since I will be funding my way through college and it still allows me to reach a

portion of my goal of maintaining a career in the medical field and helping others achieve a

healthier life. Finally Ms. Wright referred me to two potential mentors at presybetarian hospital

both with specialize in interventional cardiology and are well renowned in the area as
presybetarian is the leading hospital of interventional cardiology in texas. Overall this interview

was highly beneficial especially for my first ever with a medical professional, I was able to learn

of two procedures that can later be questioned with a mentor and hopefully will be able to

shadow. The interview brought reasons of why maybe the head on medical school route may not

be the best and here is the other route and it connected me with some of the prestigious

interventional cardiologist in the area which would make one of the best mentors education wise.
