Analysis

Dr.Belbel is one of, if not the only cardiologist found at hunt regional medical clinic that

is dedicated to cardiovascular diseases, being a small clinic adjacent to the regional hospital.

Dr.Belbel has been in Cardiology for a long time working in the military for a portion of time

even meeting another man that was working on the deployment technology for vascular stents.

With that came with almost endless knowledge of specifically interventional cardiology, joining

the field in the 80s during its “birth years” as the field is still in its refining process being ever so

young compared to alternate specialities.

This interview was another surprise as it lasted ten to fifteen minutes not nearly as long as

my first ever interview and felt as if I could not gather enough information. My goal out of this

interview was to line up potential mentorship as Dr. Belbel was highly knowledgeable in the

field and I felt he could pass on some of that knowledge and assist me through my year in ISM. I

was right in the beginning with the interview ending with a promise of a mentorship with Dr.

Belbel at the hospital, not at the clinic where potential could be wasted. It was exhilarating that I

had a mentorship ready within just a month or two, however, that all fell flat very quickly. As

the final steps were being prepared I was deemed a liability by the company of the hospital, more
of a danger during shadowing visits to patients than an assistance. While disheartening and the

ending of my chance of a mentorship with Dr. Belbel he was able to leave some information with

me before the end of our discussion.

This interview brought the attention of the main cause of cardiovascular complications.

Inflammation. Something that I did not believe was a strong factor in medicine but rather just the

body’s was of reacting to damage, a defense mechanism to heal. Was I wrong, Dr. Belbel was

able to discuss that inflammation was one of the leading causes for heart damage and valve

stenosis including myocardial infarctions. Inflammation while being a defense mechanism

triggered by the body to combat infection and foreign entities causes more damage than actually

assisting in recovery as it places stress on the organs. Yes it does cause increased healing as it

heats up the surrounding area so that the invaders can be killed of faster almost like a localized

fever, it causes stress which is subsequently harms surrounding tissues and leads to future

complications. This information was surprising to me something that I would have never

considered to be one of the leading causes for cardiovascular disease as well as diseases in nearly

every other body system. It has lead me to further dive into these findings with more research to

develop my understanding of these causes further and even take a new look on what other hiding

normalities can cause damage to the body to the extent it leaves it with lasting effects. I plan to

use these findings in other interviews to see how other cardiologist are not only handling and

treating inflammation but find additional information on inflammation and it correlation to heart

disease but also other causes which with interventional cardiology and medicine in general are

designed to stop before they fester into a lethal condition.

My interview with Dr.Belbel was one that was highly promising, it showed that I had

potential to obtain a mentorship and just how much of the information I am missing but also just
how much I can learn. It was heartbreaking when the mentorship fell through due to company

policy which may lead to future problems with future mentornships but it is just something that

will be worked around. Overall this interview was one of the most beneficial to me which I only

hope to build upon.
